AmmoLand: The deceptive term "Assault Weapons" has proven to be a buzz word among the anti-gun media. Back in 2000 in your book " <broken link removed> you wrote "The Republicans walk the NRA line and refuse to even limited restrictions. I generally oppose gun control, but I support the ban on assault weapons and I also support a slightly longer waiting period to purchase a gun."Since that time the AR15 rifle, what the media calls an "assault weapons", has become America's most popular firearm with millions and millions of them owned by good people.

Do you still stand by this quote or has your thinking evolved over the 15 years since you wrote that line?

Donald Trump:

"I certainly stand by my opposition to Gun Control when it comes to taking guns from law-abiding citizens. You mention that the media describes the AR-15 as an "assault rifle," which is one example of the many distortions they use to sell their agenda. However, the AR-15 does not fall under this category. Gun-banners are unfortunately preoccupied with the AR-15, magazine capacity, grips, and other aesthetics, precisely because of its popularity."

Sort of like the Carly F. Face remark he's claiming a misunderstanding.

Either way he has solidified/clarified his positions on Carly's face during the debate saying she was a beautiful woman and the real definition of an assault weapon.

If you want to risk having your AR-15 banned then vote for Trump. He has consistently supported a ban on so-called 'assault weapons'. All you need to do is do a quick Google search to find out. In particular, check out <broken link removed>. Here is a direct quote from him in 2000:

"I generally oppose gun control, but I support the ban on assault weapons and I support a slightly longer waiting period to purchase a gun. With today's Internet technology we should be able to tell within 72-hours if a potential gun owner has a record."
Source: The America We Deserve, by Donald Trump, p.102 , Jul 2, 2000

So, back in 2000, he clearly wanted to ban so-called 'assault weapons' and had no problem with a 72 hour waiting period to purchase a firearm.

Now check his current website to see if he has changed his mind on these specific topics or if he doesn't address them specifically. If he doesn't address them specifically, it's a pretty safe bet he hasn't changed his mind on them.

Personally, I can't believe some gun owners are falling for this big talking charlatan. And Carson has also been very ambiguous on gun rights - especially again on the so-called 'assault weapons' issue. If you want a true 2A supporter in the White House, look for the candidate that has a proven track record over the long term. I know that would likely mean voting for a 'career politician' and I can certainly understand how unpalatable that might be to many. If you do insist on a political neophyte, at least look for someone who comes out clearly and unambiguously as a true supporter of all 2A rights. From the little I've seen after scratching the surface a bit, I'd pick Fiorina over Trump and Carson. And from the list of 'experienced' candidates, there's little doubt about Paul and Cruz - they are 100% on all 2A issues. Just my opinion FWIW.

Fact is we have been lied to on our gun rights by democrats and republicans, both of them will take away guns. Trump is an outsider that isn't part of the established ruling class and our best hope at keeping our rights. It's only going to take one more bad shooting and whichever side of the ruling class that's in they will all vote to steal our guns.

I am going to vote Trump because he isn't part of the ruling class. We may still have to fight for our gun rights, he may be a liar but the ruling class are proven liars on guns and I won't vote for any of them.

If the Republicans pick Cruz, Trump, Fiorina, Rubio, Walker, the Doctors, the chubby guy, Huck, :(Bush:(etc. They are getting my vote.
Haven't researched but I'm not hearing good things about Kasich. But given the alternatives I'd vote for him if he's the eventual candidate.
I was rooting for Jindal and he isn't out yet but odds are against him now.

You guy's know our PNW Votes don't mean squat anyway right? Got relatives in key States like I do? Now's the time to start convincing!
I wonder if that has anything to do with my relatives never answering or returning my calls???

People have no idea how much accumulated power we have together. Facebook claims they can manipulate what is said enough to sway 30% of the vote. If we all keep posting we will vote for Trump everywhere we go on the net it gets read and people get scared that the ruling class won't win.

Vote for Trump and make a difference by telling everyone you are... Trump 2016

I love that Trump is desensitizing or deprogramming America and the Republicans from over the top PC nonsense, AKA Progressive censorship of opposing views!

I'm not convinced Trump can beat Biden or whoever steps in if Hillary gets defeated or arrested though.

Donald has changed his party, his position on 2A, taxes, and a load of other things in order to create a "Movement." He is a bully and a despot. The ease with which he redefines, mischaracterizes, and displaces responsibility for himself reflects "thinking errors" and "criminal thinking" usually found in individuals being evaluated by the Court (psychopathic deviants...per MMPI) prior to sentencing. He reminds me of other despots over the years (think Slobodan Milosevic) who used the "nationalism" chant to win votes. I believe if he is successful in taking the WH, his true colors will emerge on day one. Fiorina will be scrubbed based on HP history. She might make a good Secretary of State. I like Cruz and Rubio. Both have been fighting the fight openly since they arrived in office. Both are very conservative and both are seasoned and rational....something DT is not. I like Christie for either a VP or Atty. General. He is bright and really tough. Not a great 2A guy but very American. Great thread! :D

If anyone couldn't beat Biden, what would that say about the state of America?

Never underestimate the stupidity of the American public! Also, we have about 20-30 million illegals voting Dem. We have hundreds of voting districts that we are supposed to believe shed not ONE Rebublican vote. Seems a bit odd to me....but no voter fraud there according to Eric Smolder.

Have you seen the gushy MSM coverage of "Uncle Joe" lately? He always got the soft treatment through all of his gaffs but now?!?!?

What would a Biden win say about America?

That America is full of low info voters who go by sound bites and looks, (Biden looks friendlier), Union Voters, the social justice global warming crowd and the open borders Latino voters etc.

A few other key issues like the Hoplophobia that many Americans seem to have acquired in recent years and the so called war on Women is hurting the Republicans too.

True but should the votes be tight we could someday matter :(
Now that is funny....not.

This above in my opinion is why and how this country will make its next step to splitting up. We the people will pick our state that best supports our beliefs, and then the fight is on.
So get out asap all, cause dividing is gonna be a for sure.
You can only so long handle being lead by the crazies. Oregon ain't that great. Cut your losses and join the like minded.

Get your black guns while you can.
Why?

I don't see any huge changes in gun rights in the near future. The House is solidly Republican and will stay that way. The last attempt at an "assault weapons ban" was voted down. We have two solid SCOTUS rulings in our favor (Heller and McDonald) that finally cemented the Second Amendment as an individual right, and the number of states that are either "shall issue" or that don't require concealed carry licenses at all has continued to increase during Obama's presidency. Much work remains to be done, of course, and we should never let our guard down, but in terms of guns there isn't anything Hillary or Sanders or Biden could possibly do to us that Obama would not have already done if he had the ability. The last thing we need is a bunch of panic buying and hoarding like we saw after Sandy Hook.

I am going to vote for Trump, I am really tired of the same old politicians.

I'll trust a businessman over a politician any day.

Careful with that, never the best idea to vote solely based on party. Better than not voting, but still not the best idea.

Considering the loons on the other side? Socialist, Socialist, Uncle Joe.. not much there. Another year for line vote.

Trump says it how it is. He doesn't sugar coat or try to find something good from something bad. I like that. I will vote for him. If he doesn't make it, Fiornia is a close second.

And that's why most will. They are tired of the political BS and PC crowd running this nation. The Democratic group has pushed further and further towards government control. The Repubs have always chosen a moderate. The pendulum swings but lately it hasn't been swinging back to correction. It's stayed further and further towards socialism without returning.

We need a bull nosed, pig headed, stubborn, non PC person to actually do what they say. When you see who's funding their own campaign it's astounding. IF you believe in something so much... have we forgotten about the term: "Put your money where your mouth is"??? Lately it's been "Put somebody else's money where your mouth is." when it comes to politics.

I'm 34, but unlike most my age... I'm not a progressive.

20-30 million 'illegals' voting? That's amazing. Homeland security puts the entire 'illegal' population in the US at about 11.3 million folks.
http://www.pewresearch.org/fact-tank/2015/07/24/5-facts-about-illegal-immigration-in-the-u-s/

Is it 20 or is it 30 million? Also, what about their kids at home when these 'illegals' are off voting? Another 5-7 million people? Also if 20-30 million 'illegals' are voting, what about the voting age 'illegals' who don't vote? In 2014 only 34% of voters actually voted. That would mean the total of 'illegal' voters of voting age - kids not included - would be almost 90 million people. The whole US population, adults and children, is under 319 million.

Here's a statistic that might explain why some people believe that 20-30 million 'illegals' are voting. I will cite the source:

According to South Park, 1 in 4 Americans are retards.
