I think the Secure-it key operated box with a cable is a low cost alternative to the more expensive safes. Around $30.:s0155:

All cables can be cut. An automobile is a lousy place to "secure" a gun. Any car prowler worth his salt has a pair of bolt cutters nearby. Or, just steal the car / truck and deal with the bolted to the floor lock box at your convenience, in the privacy of your own crib.

I don't think the typical smash & grab artist is going around with bolt cutters. They are not easy to conceal, and you are not going to get away telling the cops you are holding them for a friend. Likewise theres not a lot of slimjimmery going on these days as slim jims are not the best or right tool to break into most cars these days. Smash the window with a rock or fist, grab stuff and unass the area before cops come. Watch the documentaries on car prowlers, even the professional ones rarely have more than a screwdriver on them. Easy to conceal, easy to ditch. They are in and out in seconds, not minutes.

Car thieves on the otherhand are a worry, but even if the gun needs cut off with a torch they can take the time to do so provided they get the car to the chop shop or wherever it winds up before it gets reported stolen and police hunt for it.
