this time of year? good luck. Rivers are to high to muddy and to fast.

The Santiam River is a good bet in season. As would be any of the higher mountain lakes up Hwy 22.

There would be limited success in the Abiqua near Silverton and up the canyon.

Silverton Reservoir is stocked and has a few natives.

There might be trout at Cascades Gateway park off Tuner road across from the Nat Gaurd base.
The Willamette not much of a trout stream.

Coming West towards Red Prarie Rd. it is on the left. Take the Sheridan exit then South towards prison......sign says Fishing Pond. Neighbor goes at least once a week and catches a few he uses garlic power bait. Open year around, they stock it quite often .

Been awhile since I fished around Salem but this time of year..Cascade Gateway, Walling ponds ( if there still open) or the hiway lakes down past Albany, we used to fish the Dallas reservoir but I don't think you can get up there any more....

Is it big enough to kayak in? Been wanting to try kayak fishing and that is a pretty short drive.

have you tried the St. Louis Ponds? They're open year round - though this time of year the gate leading in is locked so you have to park on the shoulder and walk in. You're near enough to some ponds if you don't want to walk. IIRC, there's a dozen ponds or so to choose from. They have trout, bass, bluegill, crappie, and catfish. Powerbait, worms, marshmallows, velveeta "cheese", salmon eggs will all work if you're a bait guy. Rooster tails, panther martins, lil' cleos, and small crank baits if you're a lure guy. Flies will work also - but this time of year the fly fishing can be tough, because the ponds will color up with rain. Midge imitations, woolly buggers, and other nymph imitations will do best. Slow presentations are best.

My self and 4 other guy are thinking of going to Detroit Lake 04/20/13 but have never fished it before. We will be bank fishing. Is there a good spot you would recomend and what works good for bait up there?
