Trigger Work on a Winchester M88

I have a pre-64 Winchester Model 88 in 308. I like the gun but the trigger is miserable. I've heard that they triggers are not fixable - and most Smiths won't touch em'.
But, I've heard of some old-timey Smiths who did great work on em...but most of them are retired and/or dead. Anyone know of any gunsmiths that do work on 88s' and have direct experience with em?
