I have biz associates in Stockton and go there a few times a year. Its a fine little town to stop in. JFC you guys are ridiculous, scared of your own shadows.

I grew up there. You don't have a clue. Stockton's violent crime rate is 3 times that of CA as a whole. It's property crime rate is double that of CA as a whole. It has historically been in the top 10 cities in the US for murder rate per capita. But you just go ahead and act like it's Disneyland.

Maybe I go only to the good parts but it seems fine every time I'm there. Half the people on this board think Seattle is a war zone.

I grew up hanging out on skid row in Stockton around 1960. We used to shoot pool in a place called Zieglers where you had to sometimes relocate a drunk to make a shot. I've never been afraid to go anywhere. When they bulldozed skid row for urban renewal they discovered casino equipment in hidden basements and opium dens. Later on, when I worked all hours of the day and night in Hunters Point in SF I felt right at home.

Good areas? There are no "good" areas. There are more expensive areas, but you're never more than a few blocks from a section 8 project. Here's a sign on the front of one of the most expensive restaurants in Stockton:

It's a dangerous place where I would never venture, unarmed. We simply carried concealed there until we could escape. Between the two of us we had to draw 9 x on creeps

If you just have to go, I vote with the Eastern desert route, avoiding Cali as much as possible

I was born and raised in Sacramento. Moved up years ago, hate going back. I have to this summer, wife wants to take the kids to Six Flaggs:mad:
I will be taking heat down because I intend on making it back.

We spent our last 11 years there and both have college degrees from Sacto.. nearly as dangerous as Stockton and Oakland

Last time I was there Old Sacramento was pretty much closed down due to gang warfare. What a shame. In 1990 you could sit and eat a steak and have a glass of wine or whiskey outdoors, and listen to live jazz. But it looked like a ghost town when I was there a few years ago.

The difference between those of us who experienced the dirty, dangerous side and those who didn't (yet) is a simple roll of the cosmic roulette wheel. I can't imagine returning, much less unarmed

We were in Fresno in March last year. Couldn't carry and I felt naked all the time when there. They even had an armed guard at the Mexican fast food place we were at.
Stayed in the motorhome or inside our friends house most of the time. Didn't take my AR with me but the 12 Ga was close by.

Done the waterfront several times, and also my gal and I were bodyguards for the Simpsons characters down there once.. costumed actors/ Those kids can be vicious!
