I believe that if the magazine is loaded, even stored in the glovebox separate from the pistol, you'd have a problem driving through Portland. Better double check.

    1. yes
    2. probably.... to vauge but in general yes. If the river section is within city limits then it depends on city ordinance. Not many cities here prohibit open carry but Newport and Astoria does. Check http://www.oregonfirearms.org/chl-central/local-gun-codes

NO. You must unload that magazine. Portland resides in Multnomah county which prohibits carrying loaded magazines... (even if you didnt have the gun on you). http://multnomah.granicus.com/MetaViewer.php?meta_id=38224&view=&showpdf=1 (scroll down to 15.064)

Yikes - I thought California was bad. So can the ammo be anywhere or must it be locked as well?
Out of curiosity if you have a concealed permit can you carry in Portland??
Have you had these laws for a long time?
So the bottom line is may just as well lock the guns, unload the clips and carry a big rock :)

A CHL preempts Multnomah countiess open carry laws. As well as those other municipal areas that have made open carry conditional on having a CHL.

I dont know if you need to lock up the ammo too.

FYI, Oregon does not honor other states permits....

I live in Arizona in the winter. In AZ you can carry any way you would like and no permit required

I beleive in Oregon if you have a fishing license and are going to/from or in the act of fishing, you can legally carry a concealed firearm.

But I'm not sure how that plays out with a non resident.
