NATO isn't being pushed east, it is democratic countries formerly occupied or dominated by Russia that are begging to join because they know better than anyone what Putin and Co. can and will do. In the past America supported a lot of dictators and despots simply because they said they were anti-communist, so third-world doubts about our genuine interest in supporting democracy were well placed.

I wished we only supported democratic countries willing to do their own fighting.
Democratic or not that doesn't mean we have to allow it or that it in the best interest of regional stability to allow it. All we have to do is say no, we need a buffer zone between NATO and Russia or we get what we are getting now. If it all seems to be working out just great then sure. Doesnt seem like it worked out all that well to me. We had 15-20 years there where Russia was weakened by the fall of the Soviet Union and the internal disputes that came with that and we swooped in and "allowed" in as many former Soviet controlled states as we could in theat time. Russia isn't going to "allow" Ukraine to go that route and unless you have noticed the Ukrainians have been cozying up a lot to whoever they could buy in the last 10 years . Now we can say hold on Russia you dont have the right and they'll keep n doing whatever it was they were because they dont care what we say any more.

IF you truly want to support "democratic" countries, forget Ukraine. Ukraine has been a thugocracy since the Western-sponsored 2014 Maidan coup which replaced the former government in Kiev..

Putin has single-handedly destroyed Russia: it's economy, international relations, military and future demography. Pretty impressive. He's even convinced long-time neutrals like Sweden and Finland to join NATO. Had he been a better neighbor, NATO would have withered away years ago.

We have a democracy to the north of us, and a narco-state to the south. Neither are worried about the USA invading and adding new states to the union. And like other democracies, the world's most destitute flee to democracies not to repressive regimes.

We're planning a trip to Greece next year for our 50th anniversary. Someday, I'd like to visit a rebuilt and restored Ukraine.

SLAVA UKRAINE 🇺🇦

The thing ya'll need to learn is that it's a process. 1st, we go into Afghanistan and totally kick their backwards 3rd world, no weapons, tails. This gets the Russians thinking: "Opps, we better watch out and let the US take over Ukraine. After all, look what they just did to those goat herders".

Next, we send a few billion dollars to Ukraine so that all of the corrupt Ukrainian politicians (ie, all of them not in jail as Zelenski jailed all opposition and critics - including journalists, of his regime) are swimming in money. You tax dollar money, and lots of it. Then we go in as adversary's to the russians, sending munitions to the opposing side and verbally challenging them to start a nuclear war. "Ya Ya Ya blah blah whata gonna do Ivan, bomb all of our cities with your puny 6200 nuclear weapons? HAHAHA...we laugh at your million megaton bombs"

At this point, the whole world just figures we are crazy, backs off, and lets us waltz right in. At least in some crazy dementia patients dream that's is their hoped for finish. Interesting and untried strategy. We all know it's amazingly dumb and will not work, but the administration wants to look tough, so we'll follow them until the nuks start to hit us anyway. After all, the news says Putin is evil...surely they forgot the part where we overthrow the democratically elected Ukrainian government in 2014, then had Ukraine not follow through on allowing the donboss semi sovereignty agreement ( the Minsk accords) like they agreed, then we ignored the 14,000 civilians, their own folks, which the Ukes killed while bombing the civilians in the donboss for 8 years, add the fact that we told Russia we would not expand NATO and then we added 14 new countries near their borders anyway to the Nato roles.

Yeah, there is that part I guess, but maybe the nuclear war the US seems to be striving for won't be too bad when it finally is provoked and arrives in our lands.

What scares me about this who mess is we are sending boatloads of cash and really have no idea what happens to it after we send it. How much of it is used for what we send it, and how much is wasted or just plain stolen? Not to mention Putin of course knows we are fighting him now using a proxy. What really scares me more is the current admin has shown just how totally incompetent they can be. Since everyone knows Joe does not even know what day it is any more he has no idea what is going on. If this blows up in our face those who are pulling the strings will never admit it was them. Scary as hell.

How Much ??? .. it In a locked box, with label of 'National Security' handled by Congress that is exempt of FOIA . No One will make audit of actual amount .
There is a fresh couple Trillion-$$$ borrowed Tax dollars laying on the table right now, controlled by political regime that has a limited time of control to move as much-$$$$ as possible . Right now Ukraine is large, if not the largest available avenue to Launder graft and wash back.

"At the end of an unassuming road outside of the eastern Ukrainian town of Artemivsk (or Bakhmut) is the village of Paraskoviyevka. There, you'll find a salt mine originally established in 1869."

This may explain the why Russia is expending so much effort, and so many casualties attacking Bakhmut. This is a strategic objective.
