Does this add to, or detract from, the idea that you always keep a round chambered?

The middle ground is that you only chamber the round when you are actually carrying, or at least have the gun in your direct control.

In this case, the lack of a round in the chamber acted as an effective safety mechanism, since the toddler did not rack the slide to get one into the chamber. If I was the Court-appointed counsel, I would argue that my client was not negligent, but intentionally placed the gun in a condition in which the child could not discharge it. :rolleyes: ;)
