I've written our ultra-left tree-hugging Oregon legislators many times asking why they don't loose the strings on logging? I think clear cut areas that are completely cleared out, brush and all then replanted with young trees would benefit EVERYONE! More tax revenue, more people working in the logging industry, cleared land is no longer a fire hazard and is beneficial to wildlife.

Yah, not going to happen... Spotted Owl, double breasted titmouse, whatever they can dream up. Logging = Bad, don'cha know!!!

The independent rural types are to be eliminated or moved into the cities where they can be controlled or replaced with beta males and the wimen replaced with shouting female genitals.

Forests burn and burn 200 years ago who put out the forest fires? Todays forests and wildlands are much different . Thick and over grown and not having burned for a hundred years old and weak.

Yup, Watched BLM fire crews just sitting on a fire doing NOTHING while it was still small enough it could have been contained! Watched and waited until the State and Fed argued over the seasons budget for fighting fires, before they actually sent any one to actually fight the fire! Fought with the State of OryGun over billing for fighting it's fires, Or questioned every single penny spent because I was Private HotShot, while the big outfits got paid with out any issue, after I told Or. to Get Bent and refused to send my teams, Or. had the gall to accuse me of all sorts of things, including racketeering, but the first big fire, they were begging me to send the teams! Ironically, Cali was the best and easiest to work with, thanks to Cal-Fire!

Any forest service or cal fire want to chime in and correct me if i am wrong.
The forest service/cal fire, have no intention of putting out a fire unless it is threatening lives or houses.
they prefer to burn up as much fuel as possible.( as nature intended before mans intervention) But unfortunately, we all have to suffer from the smoke to our lungs.
I wish someday , they would change the policy,, Put the fire out. then if they want to do slash burn later in the winter where the danger of the fire spreading is minimal, go for it. Or better yet, if you want the forest thinned, allow regular folks to get a wood cutting permit, and let people harvest, what was planned on being burnt up. They are going to burn it regardless, let folks have the wood.

Partially true, they want to GET PAID, and make sure they will get paid before committing teams and resources!
The problem is the STATE does not thin and clear like they are supposed to ( for which they have a budget for) and so, when a fire does happen it gets way bigger and out of control then it would if left to Mom Nature!
When you leave it to mother nature, sure, it burns, but it's usually a lot smaller and it goes quickly and that's it!
Historically, there have been less then 70 VERY LARGE fires that occurred Naturally and were largely un fought, as opposed to Recent times, well over 200 Very Large Fired that were Fought, and more land was lost because of the conditions when MAN decided he could do it better then Nature! Burning at the wrong time, burning from the wrong direction, not having the resources to actually fight and contain, all lead to some of the worst fires in world history!
Oregon has had 45 fires this season, Guess how many were actually fought? 6

Yes, trees are columns of liquid - mostly water. The bigger the tree, the more water it contains, the more resistant it is to burning completely. If you thin, especially smaller undergrowth, the less fuel there is, the farther apart the big trees are, the less hot the fire will be and the less likely the big trees will burn or burn less completely.

In addition to letting private citizens cut firewood they should first let managed areas be open for bid and logged like they use to. It would be a real boost to Oregon economy and state coffers. Damn tree huggers gotta screw everything up. No money is made from just letting forest go natural, it's a waste of renewable resources, and more people on food stamps & other state assistance which causes extra burden on Oregon tax payers but that doesn't bother our current majority of mamby pamby socialist legislators who are super busy thinking up and passing even more taxes, some hidden, some not! Oh, the power! It must make them salivate how much power they now have. Ya, freedom to overreach without limits. Wooo hooo! Oh, and while we are at it let's make it even harder to get rid of us or go around us with the initiative process. We know what's good for the peons better than they do besides how dare they challange our agenda! First let's change the rules for gathering petition signatures so it becomes much more work and expense! Come to think of it let's just get rid of the initiative process all together so our peon subjects have NO recourse at all! Our subjects might get mad about that but there is nothing they can do. Boy are we powerful! It was such a bother when it put limits on our ever-progressive socialist agenda anyway !

The last times we had multiple wildfires in the west, there was at least 7 or more that were started by people. They caught a couple on video. How strange! Hope for full prosecution for this college prof, but it is California, so likely be out and lighting fires next year.
