I'm less frightened by the folks on food stamps than by the folks on plastic at Nordstrom's. But I do see people trying to rise to the issues at hand all around me. They just are not getting alot of political support.

We may have to go tribal and band together with our neighbors or every man for himself. I guess it just all depends on the situation. I do agree with the point of drawing attention to yourself. You are half right. Cuba was living on Soviet Block handouts, they drank the Stalinist kool aid of central planning and industrialized agriculture. Then the rug got pulled out. No more handouts. They went into free fall. They did figure out how to come out of the nose dive, through a complete re-vamp of their agricultural system to local, organic, small scale. This is well documented because the rest of the world freely travels to Cuba (while we live behind the iron curtain).At this time, North Korea was in the same boat, but couldn't adapt (thanks to the Dear Leader) and thousands starved as a result.

This is interesting to the OP because it might point to a way through peak oil crash. Does this make Cuba a paradise - no. Nor does it excuse the human rights violations of the Castro regime.

IF there is a "peak oil crash," on U.S. soil, it will be due to a failure of leadership in WA DC.
Properly managed, we have fuel resources enough to get us through this century and beyond.

The current admin's thinking of increasing taxes on oil companies will have the opposite effect however, and further set the economic recover back a few MORE years.
Which of course is exactly what I believe our "anointed leader" wants.

How do you make a molotov cocktail without gasoline? If food is gone, you can bet that there won't be any gas around either.
I doubt that people will use booze for flaming bottles as they will drink it before throwing it at someone's house.
