Heck, just implant that thing! Think of the possibilities for the future? People could be monitored at all times.

"SkyWater Technologies" Catchy name. Sounds familiar somehow. :s0087:

Yeah, any tech can be misused, but just think about the past pandemics where some caregiver had to care for 5 members of his/her family all sick with something and bedridden at the same time. A little bit of help could go a long ways.

A lot of the tech we have today we take for granted, but without it we would be in a world of hurt, especially if a really bad pandemic hit us - indoor plumbing, antibiotics, OTC painkillers, refrigeration, microwave/electric ovens.

Well and good until I got to the part about "long distance monitoring"... kma if Im going to have some tech co or the gummint monitor my temp- I mean, what could possibly go wrong?? My temp tends to fluxuate between 98.1* and 99.1*F and I'd be setting off alarms between Cali and the Mississippi river.. screw that and tech co/.gov interference. Im suspicious enuff of government and big biz motives as it is- don't need any more cause.

Yep, I get it. It's just these days it seems like more of the elected "Leaders" are working toward being "Controllers".
Reason #53 I'm glad I'm glad I'm 65 and not 17.

Being 66 now, I would much prefer being 17, especially if I could go back to the shape I was in before I flipped a car end for end - twice - when I was 17 (assuming of course I could keep my current mind/experience/attitude/knowledge).

I never liked government control (or any control by any person), from the time I was very young (pre-teen) and told that the gov would be deducting SSI from my earnings without my consent.

Yeah, I think I have one of these somewhere:

The thing about the patch sensor is that you don't have to periodically check it, it would notify you if the person was running a fever. When you are caring for multiple people, that is helpful.

The other thing I want to get is a recording oximeter - that is useful for multiple situations, including my own current health conditions.

If it requires/connects to a remote server that I can't have local/private, then I probably would not bother with a sensor patch. Besides privacy, that isn't very useful in a situation where that server may not be available. I've been having problems with the long distance WiFi network we have here on the mountain - neighbor had no connectivity for a week, mine has been sporadic. Cell networks are not that reliable in a SHTF situation either, but most cell phones can connect to a private WAP/mesh network as long as you have power (which could be supplied by batteries).

Imagine being able to go out and weed the garden, feed the chickens, cut/split/stack firewood, etc., and be able to be notified of a sick person inside the house running a fever, or not breathing well, or coughing/etc.

That would indeed provide a new monitoring method for us parent types. (Our kiddos are super healthy, but like all wee ones, they get their share of snivels, coughs, and colds. I call them "little vectors", along with their school teacher mother, due to all the bugs they bring home. :s0112:)

They often have not developed much immunity yet, so they are indeed disease vectors. I would say that most of the colds I have caught probably have come from working in an office with coworkers who have young children.

I am not too worried about normal situations, even the current CV-19 situation, but if we had the Cascadian Earthquake, a LOT of people would be sick with diseases worse than CV-19. Which is why a few years ago I made a concerted effort to catch up on my vaccinations, including DPT. I plan to travel in my retirement so I will use that as justification to get more vaccinations for traveling to third world countries (whether I go there or not) - just in case.

Our daughter had some issues that concerned us when she was born so we got this: OwletCare - Baby Monitor | Track Heart Rate, Oxygen and Sleep

Functions 100% without connecting to anything. If you get the App, there's insights that you can have access to, but it's not a requirement to run it (or, at least it wasn't when we got it).

Non-medically, I also run Philips Hue lights and Nest Smoke/CO detectors. Both are set up on local wifi networks that I have blocked from the internet, so I can access their settings on my phone but they don't get to talk to Google/Philips servers unless I want them to (I'll let them connect for updates or when I'm out of town so I can control the lights for the animals and monitor activity for signs of theft).

Just because these devices have the ability to connect out to a server, I can't imagine that they wouldn't be 100% functional without the server connection. So, connect at your discretion.

They just IR gun the forehead.

When I went to the casino this weekend that is what they were doing; asked about symptoms, got temp from the noggin, and handed out a mask. Easy-peasy.

Very cool technology. Thanks for the link; I'll do some research on this. Ours are now 4 and 6, so no longer babies, and they are healthy little mugs, but still, mo' data to the parents, the better. :)

That's interesting. One of the things that causes me to be sad is thinking of the places I've been, and the things I've seen. And know that I can never see those places as anywhere near what they were. If I were to be young(er) again and have my current memories and knowledge, it would really be sad. All the things we USED to be able to do. All the places that weren't ruined by too many people. and bad actors. Naw, I'll keep my memories of some wonderful times, places and people, and not live another 50 +/- years.

I live about 5 miles from the family farm near Scholls (not the strip malls with the Scholls name on them, but rather the actual real Scholls that just got its first stop light). Everytime I go into town I pass the family farm which is no longer owned by the family. I remember the good and the not so good, the people from my parents and grandparent's generation that are almost all gone now. But most of that countryside is still the same as it was - mostly, because of the urban growth boundary and zoning laws, so that makes me glad.

I don't necessarily want to go back 50 years in time, but I want to not groan in pain when I get in/out of a car or up out of a chair, or have my knees give out on me when I am just walking along. I want to be able to walk miles again, instead of yards, without chest pain and being out of breath. I want to be able to sleep for more than a few hours without pain pills - I used to sleep like a log. I used to be able to hear things too, and my eyes are going also (not as bad as my hearing).

So yeah, I want that 17 year old body - but that is just a fantasy and I much prefer the mind I have now; I was a stupid immature kid well into my 20s. I didn't really mature I was 30 or so, and even so I wish I knew then what I know now and more importantly, had the time left to take advantage of it. :(
