Been contemplating purchasing an AR-style carbine or rifle. What I know about them is very little so some advice would be appreciated. Although the M&P15-22 seems to be a great deal and is popular, it strikes me as too 'light' a caliber.

Okay folks, let me have it!

What the heck? M&P15-22 is a .22lr rifle for plinking and practice. It just looks like an AR-15. An AR-15 is usually chambered in 5.56x45 NATO, an intermediate centerfire cartridge. There are many different calibers to choose from, but this is the original/normal one.

Also, read this: So you want to buy an AR-15, huh?
