Never thought of this, but wow....
Great statistics.

The world's largest army... America's hunters!

A blogger added up the deer license sales in just a handful of states and arrived at a striking conclusion:
There were over 600,000 hunters this season in the state of Wisconsin.

Allow me to restate that number.
Over the last several months, Wisconsin's hunters became the eighth largest army in the world.
More men under arms than in Iran.
More than in France and Germany combined.

These men deployed to the woods of a single American state to hunt with firearms, and no one was killed.
That number pales in comparison to the 750,000 who hunted the woods of Pennsylvania and Michigan's 700,000 hunters, all of whom have now returned home.

Toss in a quarter million hunters in West Virginia and it literally establishes the fact that
the hunters of those four states alone would comprise the largest army in the world.

The point?
America will forever be safe from foreign invasion with that kind of home-grown firepower.

Hunting -- it's not just a way to fill the freezer. It's a matter of national security.

That's why all enemies, foreign and domestic, want to see us disarmed.
Food for thought when next we consider gun control.

Very Good!

This is why all hunters and/or gun owners should belong to an organization like the NRA. Should the time ever come when it is necessary to combine members. God forbid ..... however Do Not Tread On Me

Tactical Option,

I agree, however, the last two sentences do cover "Domestic"
as well as "Foreign". This why I contact my senators & representatives several times a year. They need to know we will not allow the USA to fall into hands of government like England or Australia, as well as other nations.

That is why I listed NRA type organizations instead of Join the NRA. I feel all gun owners must be available to respond to the need/s and have a common source for communications.

I agree and I contact them as well. I am very active politically and do a lot of reading. I am also an NRA member. However, the road our leaders are taking us down is leading us to the brink of economic collapse. We cannot continue to spend what we don't have. Our politicians need to do what is right and stop deficit spending. As our country breaks down, I foresee marshal law, rioting, and looting. At this time, through emergency legislation, the liberal elite will move to further restrict our gun rights and transform us into a socialist dictatorship.

They can have my gun when they pry it from my cold dead fingers.

Nice thought, but a reality check is in order. Numbers alone do not constitute an effective force. Without a disciplined command structure and training in co-ordinated movement and tactics you just have a bunch of people with guns. Not to mention the fact you have no heavy weapons nor organized support structure. As Socrates once said of the Athenian militia: "Untrained citizens with weapons are no more an Army than a pile of stones is a house."

Yes, but remember that they ARE in the militia of the United States.

US Code title 10,311

(a) The militia of the United States consists of all able-bodied males at least 17 years of age and, except as provided in section 313 of title 32, under 45 years of age who are, or who have made a declaration of intention to become, citizens of the United States and of female citizens of the United States who are members of the National Guard.
(b) The classes of the militia are—
(1) the organized militia, which consists of the National Guard and the Naval Militia; and
(2) the unorganized militia, which consists of the members of the militia who are not members of the National Guard or the Naval Militia.

And old retired GI's like me would be charged with turning that armed rabble into an Army.

And also, it was the militia of the colonies that kept the revolution alive long enough for a regular army to be trained....

thank u one eyed. Your last statement was partially true.

Something else to consider. Our own miltary/police will not have the stomach to maintain an offensive against their own people. There won't be open warfare on the battlefield. Think small unit tactics.

this statistic also assumes that every hunter has only one firearm. I personally know that every hunter that I know has multiple that we could arm others with the defend our country. I know many that do not hunt, but sure as H3LL would take up arms as well.

Don't forget that many of those hunters are combat vets from past and present wars.

I know...I am one. But you see the terrible price the Libyans are paying for their initial disorganization. Our colonial militia had regular musters and drills and a pre-established muster plan and initial rally points. I'm not saying America's hunters couldn't be an effective force, just that numbers without a plan are meaningless.

I heard that in Tillamook OR during WWII there were the Tillamook Garilla miltia, well armed with there own weapons unpaid and called on by the state Gov. to protect the coast and roads in the area in case of invation, as well as a militia group in Portland i think were called Portland Bushwackers, I am sure these good old boys were fairly organized, and prety sure it would not take much for a experienced leader to step up to the plate and organize the people when duty calls
