Just finished Panfilov's 28

I think I already recommended T34

Battle for Sevastpol

Another one was a documentary about the siege of Stalingrad? How the Soviet general sucked in the Germans and then surrounded them.

Good movies. The Soviets were no slouches.

A great series is The Attackers, Parts 1 and 2. Russian fighter squadron with male and female pilots. The Russians make fun of their own political officers. You can find it on Youtube and Prime. Subtitles.

I think I watched that or several like that. One was about a bunch of female pilots in biplanes that dropped bombs by hand - on trains and artillery IIRC?

I think I recall reading at some point, that one of the mistakes Germany made in attacking the USSR, was calculating the number of fighters who would oppose them based on the male population figures.

Add to that they thought that since they (the Germans) had done so well with the rest of Europe, that they (the Germans) were invincible and that the Soviets would just cave in, plus the Germans planned on scavenging for supplies, while the Soviets basically left nothing but scorched earth behind as they retreated.

Hitler's insistence on taking Stalingrad when the German's could have cutoff the Soviets anywhere along the Volga was a big mistake. The Germans got sucked into a trap - at first it was getting sucked into urban street to street fighting, then getting surrounded. Had Hitler not attacked Russia, if he had just gone straight down into the Caucuses to get those oil fields, he would have had the oil without having to deal with the Soviet army near as much. The battle of Stalingrad required him to remove forces from the western front.

All of WWII would have been quite different if he had just left the Soviets alone, not bothered the British (where they lost a lot of the Luftwaffe) and just stuck to controlling much of western Europe. If he had done that, it is quite possible the much of Europe would still be under control of the Nazis.

I started to watch what I think was a series about a squad of Guards infantry.. I think and these female pilots who supported them, I cant remember the name. I saw 1 episode, i think it was in Russian with subs.
Wish I could remember the name.:s0076:

This YouTube free movie view was just put up a couple of hours ago. It has some Russians in it. So, I guess it counts.

Story line.
It's the Eastern Front, 1944. The Russians are pushing the German Army back through Romania. Major Kurt Fleischer, war-weary commander of an elite troop of German soldiers, is ordered to escort a female scientist, Professor Anna Kappel, from the Nazi Occult Department, the Annenerbe, into a mysterious forest behind enemy lines. His orders come from the highest level, Himmler himself. If the mission fails; there will be no reprieve for him and his men. A bona fide suicide mission in Fleischer's eyes. Accompanied by Heinrich Metzger, a psychotic SS Major, they move deep into the forest. As Fleischer's men begin to die in horrific and inhuman ways, he realises there is something in the trees that is far more deadly than the Russians. But turning back is not an option. Before his troop is wiped out, Fleischer needs to discover what Anna wants, deep within the forest, and who or what is intent on slaughtering them before they get there.

YouTube has some great foreign movies on it. The special effects are good and the story lines are mostly believable, even with the inevitable political message. :s0093:

Watch out for the, "Soaps" though. They are addictive.;)

* Bollywood is also a much overlooked source of entertainment. :)
