Way back when I first lived in China and was learning the language, I went out with a friend to eat street food. Basically, BBQ meats on a stick. The seasoning was excellent, but to the point it's kinda hard to tell what you're eating.
Asked my friend (whose English was as bad as my Chinese) what we were eating, my friend took a moment, struggled for the English word, and said what I thought was "goat". "Oh, OK" I thought. Later on I realized my friend said "gou" which is Chinese for dog.
Yeah, so I've eaten dog. Not proud of it.

I've sat at a civilian table in Vietnam where dog was served. There were two kinds, one was puppy. I passed. Meat may be meat but I prefer the alternatives to dog meat.

The "Texas Beefsteak" served at the best hotel in Vung Tau was water buffalo. That was actually pretty tasty. Served on those iron platters shaped like a cow, resting on a wooden base.
