the book is best, the first movie was ok but dragged on, climatically the screen play could have done better.
the second movie version was great as in color but still just a jumbled mess really as it is the narrative that
Ralph give is key to the plot. also the age of the real kids as referenced the youngest was 13 and in the book if i
remember 13 would be the oldest, also were and how the kids were raised would be a key element.
