I have decided to go back to the old DE safety razor for my shaving needs. I haven't used one since boot camp, 100 years ago or so it seems.

I ordered a 1964 Gillette revamp from these guys: http://www.razoremporium.com

Both my son and my dad have heavy beards and use the DE system albeit with more contemporary razors than this old Gillette.

Are there any other safety razor users out here?

That's a great album!
I use that razor. Watch your nose edges, cause it will take chunks off. Been there.
I have the generic drug store razor. So the more expensive ones work better? The blades are way cheaper that's why I switched.

Get a thin blade - there are differences and that one is the biggest.

Also suggested is to try something like this variety pack to see which works best for you.

Or,

If you are not careful, you may find you have a collection of the razors - old, refinished, etc.
And a boars bristle brush ... strope ....
and the next thing you know you'll have a straight razor ...

You can find classic - on eBay etc - but due to popularity the prices are up.

I like Dorco currently

but I would switch if I found something better.

Then you'll just need Moneypenny

I've gotten my razors from Dollar Shave Club for over a year now. WAY cheaper than buying the Gillete Mach-5's I used to get.

$6 a month for a 4-pack of 4-bladed heads, shipped. They work just fine, and they have 5-bladed models you can get as well, for a couple $$ more a month.

....Replacing a medicine cabinet over the sink in an old house and having several hundred old double-edge razor blades falling out! Shaving :s0002:. I've kept a beard since right out of high school, goatee, then full ever since, just keep the neck-beard shaved. Just say NO to neck-beards!

stumbled across this, this morning

Thank you for at least PARTIALLY concealing your face!

I have to go WAY back to see my chin in photos, before digital cameras. Maybe it was because I was picked on by a kid in band class, Edward Extrom used to call me "Triangle Head". 'Spose that's why I see trumpet players as jerks?

Switched to a DE system about 3 years ago. Cost drove me away from the modern cartage razors. I like using a DE razor far better on top of the cost savings. I have been working through $40 worth of blades I ordered from Amazon three years ago. Looks like I'll get about 8 more months before I have to reorder.

Any new hair that grow in are gray. and those don't grow right so i quit trying to look presentable.
If they don't like my beard the fooee.
but there is plenty of gray beards around here:cool:
So for shaving........... ah never mind:eek:

Yup, I too went back to a safety razor last summer. Got tired of the high cost of multi blade cartridges...

Two things that make the shave more comfortable, besides a high quality razor handle. One is the blade. I prefer the Dorco blades either the 300 or 310 series. The number has to do with the blades angle/thickness/flexibility. I find both are good for a great shave.

The other is what's between the blade and the face, I finally settled on Cremo Shave Cream, with a brush. It provides a nice stout lather and a simple rewet gets the razor sliding like its on ice.

I do a hot towel wrap for 45 to 90 seconds before starting, lather up and shave with the grain. Re-lather and go again, against the grain. Now I truly enjoy shaving again... And the wifey says its so smooth now...

By the way, 100 of those Dorco blades can be had on Amazon for about $8.00...

Another renaissance man!!!
