Not enough,....

And then we turned the education of our children, our future, and the future we currently live in, over to people who live by the socialist principles espoused in their NEA-union doctrine,...
Because before you can kill excellence and exceptionalism, you must first kill the spirit of freedom instilled by the power of liberty and the doctrine of individual achievement for the success of all.

And substituted the "greater good" of the collective as a replacement.

And we are the poorer for it

There, that's the whole truth, and although it would have made it the "Most honest 4 minutes in television history" it still won't be enough to wake people up to the real problem.

But you didn't really expect Aaron Sorkin, the same guy that brought you A Few Good Men, The American President, The West Wing and best bud of Rob Reiner, to tell you anything that resembled the whole truth did you?

He's right on. At one time we were the greatest. Now we are told and many believe if someone is rich someone has to be poor. If someone grabs an opportunity someone is pushed in the gutter. We don't strive to be the best, we must be equal. If that means lowering standards so others apply so be it. The low information voter eats this up.

I really liked this BUT ... it is NOT enough. (Thanks OP for sharing it.)
It seems to be political corralling: Gather support of sentiments and voice them; but avoid foundational precepts, solutions truth and vision.

Key Issues:
God has been replaced by "Morality" - On the surface it seems nice and unoffensive ... but is is just several steps backwards from progressive-ism. (A regroup of sorts)
The bursting of the sentiment bubble is an emotional hack satisfaction that doesn't conclude the need to repent or change or pick up the charge of responsibility.
America "SHOULD BE" the greatest country in the world because of its foundations, founders and the wisdom drafted in it's foundational documents.
(There needs be vision towards that end with accountable action defined.)

Again - I liked it a lot but still sniffed out Hollywood methods and undertones.
1.) We should aspire - But Don't -
2.) Just admit it - we are not great anymore.
3.) You got the sentiments stirring and you agreed to them ... but now you are left agreeing to fail.
4.) Job Done.

It had some honesty in it but it isn't honest.
Honesty seeks to restore things towards what is right again.
Whereas deceit placates, cajoles and obfuscates in order to have the appearance of honesty to serve a persuasive agenda towards what is wrong;
neuralizing it's listeners away from defined action that opposes it's goals. (Digital Media Fluoridation.)

The point is he's saying that both left and right are wrong. That neither radical agenda allows a "great" America. After the pause he makes two points:

1 - We used to care about each other, and success was not a zero sum game.
2 - We were great because we had journalists who told the truth instead of cheerleading and fear mongering for the Left or Right. The truth doesn't get reported anymore.

This is from when we were still the greatest nation:

"Every gun that is made, every warship launched, every rocket fired signifies, in the final sense, a theft from those who hunger and are not fed, those who are cold and are not clothed. This world in arms is not spending money alone. It is spending the sweat of its laborers, the genius of its scientists, the hopes of its children. The cost of one modern heavy bomber is this: a modern brick school in more than 30 cities. It is two electric power plants, each serving a town of 60,000 population. It is two fine, fully equipped hospitals. It is some fifty miles of concrete pavement. We pay for a single fighter plane with a half million bushels of wheat. We pay for a single destroyer with new homes that could have housed more than 8,000 people. This is, I repeat, the best way of life to be found on the road the world has been taking. This is not a way of life at all, in any true sense. Under the cloud of threatening war, it is humanity hanging from a cross of iron. ... Is there no other way the world may live?" - Dwight Eisenhower [REPUBLICAN!]
