Trout fishing opened on a local lake this Saturday. Several local fishermen were there and a homeless young man, 18yo. He, and other homeless are the focus of this thread.

He was scrounging from others and soliciting from them, even being very up-front and vocal about his homelessness; he went on about being thrown out of his home because he got his girlfriend pregnant and was now living in the woods (a small park area) at the side of the fishing area boat launch...where bank anglers fish. Some folks gave him fish they caught and other supplies.

Monday he is there again working the crowd. He is taking home 10+fish.

Tuesday, I am fishing with several known fishermen and another young man walks up to the fishing bank area with a pit-bull/rottweiler mix dog...I am about 5 feet from the dog when it attempts to attack me, lunging and barking viciously at me. I back away of course and am threatened and scared. I relocate to a sitting position on a large rock and a few minutes later the guy brings the dog up close to where I am sitting and the dog attempts to attack me again...now I am scared, threaten, and pissed: I move again after yelling at the guy. About 15 minutes later he walks the dog away from the bank area. I am still visibly shaken and fish some more.

I saw the18 yo again on Wednesday and in passing I tell him about being accosted by the dog...He starts telling me that it is a public place and that the youth with the dog has a right to be there, what? Next, he tells me the dog is just looking for some love! Then, he goes on to tell me he heard someone pulled a gun on the dog, what? I tell him it wasn't me, stating it must have been someone else. Then he asks me if I carry a gun? I tell him no (of course, although I have a CPL and do carry). So, I ask him if he carries a gun and he says, no he can't, he's only 18, and that he carries a knife because "he likes to be close and personal".

He bums a smoke from a fellow fisherman and returns to his rod. Then another homeless guy shows ups and 'bums a smoke' from the fisherman that the first guy bummed a smoke from...then the guy with the dog (without the dog) shows up and I notice him and thank him for not bringing the dog and he sits with the newly arriving homeless person...it turns out they are all buddies and they go off to have breakfast together at the encampment in the woods and walk up the boat launch road and away...I had given him a fish, no more and not again.

I am concerned for my safety and corruption of our lake/fishing area.

I am 70 and a bit disabled. I put pepper spray in with my fishing gear...what a shame.

Next Steps for me???

Carry a pistol, have situational awareness, don't give them anything besides a job application. Lowest unemployment ever! They choose to live that way and be druggies asking for there free everything, participation trophy for all Bullbubblegum. If you report them to authorities, good luck with that until society finally recognizes we have had a problem. But hey keep voting "free everything for everybody Democrat". Somebody always pays!

The Portland area is drowning in Homeless. Portland Police are letting them camp next to major thoroughfares, and the associated garbage piles are very common in what used to be greenspaces. They're starting to infiltrate the suburbs in greater numbers, and burglary and property crimes are on the rise as a result. Fortunately, I live in Washington County, and the WCSO is very good at responding quickly to vagrants illegally camping in public right-aways. However, after 10 years of owning a home in what has been a very safe neighborhood, I've had to put in a security system after the increase in vehicle break-ins in the last 2 years. It goes without saying that I don't leave the house unarmed, although fortunately I've never felt threatened to the point where I would consider using deadly force, thank God.

However, on a brighter note, this problem is only going to get worse and there is no end in sight. The Socialist/Marxist voters of Portland will never vote to fix the problem because they simply don't care, unless there's a chance to use the homeless in a scheme to grift the taxpayers out of more money which the WokeScolds will eagerly support. We know what will happen... You don't have to be The Amazing Kreskin to predict the future. All we have to do is look at San Francisco, L.A., and Seattle. Businesses will close/leave, Graffiti and societal rot will expand and get much worse, and taxpayers will look for ways to avoid homeless dominated areas. But IMHO, the people of the Portland area deserve this problem. They voted for it, so they should enjoy it. Get Woke, Go Broke.

The rest of us will do what we need to do to protect ourselves, our property, and our families until we get fed up and leave.

My Dad had a similar run in up in WA about 6-7 years ago. From then on he packed his .38 and brought a fishing buddy. At some point those two fools are going to piss off the wrong guy.

It would be good to take a friend with you. To watch each others back . The guy asking if you pack and the 2 hidding the fact they were buddys is a red flag in my ,Opinion

Jesus said.... give a man a fish and he eats today, but TEACH a man to fish and he won't get shot tomorrow.

At least that's how I (choose to) remember it.... o_O
2 Hesitations says:
Light a fire for a man; keep him warm for a day
Light a man on fire; keep him warm for the rest of his life

...or something like that

Totally sucks.

They are essentially free to do whatever they want as no one holds them accountable for anything.

That combined with laws preventing us from holding them accountable virtually means they are living in a state of lawlessness.

It's only going to get worse, right up until citizens start doing something about it.

Ironically, I wouldn't be surprised if they are all registered voters.

I know others have said bring a buddy but to me its not just to watch your six. If something does go down you want a witness to back up your story. Because we all know damn well that the homeless kids will support each other.

Other than that find a different fishing hole. Its not worth the stress when doing something that should be relaxing.

Never give homeless anything there are plenty of shelters and other agencies to provide charitable contributions in a manner that helps them in a meaningful and responsible manner plus it forces them to go to those places for assistance rather than camping out and bubblegumting on everything everywhere and leaving their garbage everywhere because currently they're able to get handouts everywhere they go. Make their only 'watering hole' the specific institutions that provide for them.
