Out of curiosity did you guys read the whole article?

We all know CNN are idiots, but probably think so for the wrong reasons. This whole piece while stating what many of us consider the obvious potential for civil unrest, is saying we will do so out of class envy. It quotes newsweek:

Corporate earnings have soared to an all-time high. Wall Street is gaudy and confident again. But the heyday hasn't come for millions of Americans. Unemployment hovers near 9 percent, and the only jobs that truly abound, according to Labor Department data, come with name tags, hairnets, and funny hats (rather than high wages, great benefits, and long-term security). The American Dream is about having the means to build a better life for the next generation. But as President Obama acknowledged at a town-hall meeting in May, "a lot of folks aren't feeling that possibility anymore"

So is that who we're mad at? The corporations? The business that has pushed our GDP up over the last 50 years? Employed most of our parents and grand parents, and raised most of us in comfortable homes where we didn't have to worry about whether we were going to eat that night? While the case can certainly be made that corporations have screwed us plenty over the years, it's still the government that is screwing everyone (corporations included) with it's excessive regulation and over-the-top taxation schemes.

The people are going to revolt, and in many cases are very near revolt, but it won't be this shallow "civil unrest" the talking heads like to scare people with so they will get some more eyeballs. The revolt that is coming will be at the ballot box, and it starts this year, and we can all play our part. We can't let the fear mongers on the TV, and the idiot politicians, and the leftist intellectuals run around throwing the "Corporations" under the bus, that is strictly a distraction. Learn who your candidates are, if you look up there and see two piles of sawdust, one is hardwood and the other pine maybe you should think about running or encourage someone you know to run. Unlike every other country in the world we can have a revolution every two years, and for most of the last 200 have decided not to. It's time for that to change.

Well said my friend.

An insightful, eloquent response. Well done.

Dang son... I'll vote for YOU!!

We don't even have to vote "for" anyone- few of them are worth voting "for". Just vote the incumbents out. I don't care whether they are R or D- if they've been in that office for two terms, they've been there too long. Let them become entrenched, and they quit paying attention to the voters in favour of padding their own nests and that of the corporation and special interests they get overly buddy-buddy with.

I am firmly on the side of business, but not of corporate welfare, or regulation designed to keep competition down. Companies by themselves cannot rise to the point they become dangerous to us. They need government for that. If we keep the politicians churning, it'll become too expensive for corporations to buy them over and over again. There'd be less time for corporations to amass "dirt" and favours aginst any given politician. I don't care if the guy has been bringing home the pork to your district for 30 years- he's still harming your potential for real growth, and screwing the nation as a whole.

Vote for somebody new this time.

Just goes to show the "minority" is about to become the majority! I know it is 48% of people polled but it is still a pretty staggering number! Get the torches and dig up the ammo!!:)

Voting is useless as all important politicians are selected, not elected. It's a sham. No US President has made an important decision in decades. They are told what to do by big business interests, powerful Euro families like the ones that own the private Fed. We live in an Oligarchy, not a Republic. What you want means squat. The GOP vs DEMs bickering it just window dressing. They are all marching to the same orders. More for the corporate elite, less for you.

Going to a ballot box is like playing someone at cards when you know all the cards are marked. Carlin said it best - YouTube - ‪George Carlin on American Owners and Education‬‏

The country/treasury has been successfully looted right in front of our eyes. There has been more money created out of thin air since 2005 than the entire history of the country. It is all smoke and mirrors; our entire economy is a giant Ponzi scheme and yes it will collapse.

Massive money 'printing' is ensuring a destroyed economy for the benefit of the 1% of the population that already have most of the wealth. Long term, as in 1-5 years, the economy is doomed and if you are not prepared for hyperinflation and the greatest depression (which will make the 30s pale in comparison) you are screwed. Whether or not you have a job in a year is under the control of the Fed, not the puppet politicians. Fed = a trillionaire PRIVATE banking cartel.

More and more people over time will wake up to these facts and stop licking up the vomit being fed to them by the (banker owned) main stream media. The ones that learn too late will be broke, starving, and suffering. Many millionaires will be thousandaires in the not too distant future.

There will be NO sustained economic recovery. That is all BS. We have no manufacturing base, no way to dig out. All paper flying back and forth. Stall tactics as the looting continues and the industrial complex cashes in.

For those that can pull their heads out of the sand and readjust their thinking, start looking at ways to become less dependent on the system. Your own food; silver vs monopoly money, etc, etc. Listen to folks that has been warning us for years and have been right like Gerald Celente, Peter Schiff, Jim Rogers. http://theeconomiccollapseblog.com/

Let go of the dead and dying system of propaganda and manipulation that benefit the few. Start thinking about yourself and your survival. We are going third world in the next decade. Whether you are a sheep glued to a TV and totally unprepared or ready to face the extreme challenges ahead is up to you.

Now that was well said. Thanks Noisy.

WAKE UP ALL!

Some of you are still living in the same old paradigm. Voting in the next 'hope and change' artist, regardless of their R/D label.
That's insanity. Please pick up a book, turn off the TV, think for yourselves.
I mean no disrespect to the above posters. We are in this together.

Be well all,
Will

Carlin is a comedian. Just cause some one says something that sounds good doesn't mean they are an expert on the issue and can support a political idea to fruition. Quoting him hurts your arguement more than if you had stated the same thing in your own words- for all we know you've got a great deal of knowledge on political science and economics etc. Carlin we know.

That said, I tend to believe that large companies and corporate elite do have more power then they should in our gov't. I also agree with you that the President is not solely responsible because of all of the input that surrounds him. You can't expect one human being to be able to maintain expertise on all of the endless issues required to lead a country like the United States, can you? Granted, the President chooses his advisers and support team; you can fault him based on that if you like.

Voting may not function the way we all intend it to, but I'm not ready to abandon society just yet. Do I prep? Of course. But I believe that if we all threw in the towel and started to drift away from our communities and closer to our BO plan we'll only be speeding up the collapse (though I don't doubt some of you favor that).

If there is a "class-based" uprising I agree with AMProducts that it won't be immediately directed at our employers. I do think that it will be as simple as the haves v. have nots. Like it always is. It seems reasonable to think that mobs (those that believe they deserve something they haven't earned) will hit those with the appearance of wealth and privilege (who have likely fled to more stable environments). When they run out it'll be those that "have" resources (most of the people on this forum).

The question I always end with is "how long will it last?"

AMProducts, Noisycow, et al thanks for giving us something to think about

George Carlin was a genius - he saw more deeply into humanity than most ever will. Comedian - yes, but I think he was one of the sharpest philosophers of our generation.

There is no political solution to this mess. They own the system, the courts, the police and the politicians. The only peaceful way out is to disengage as much as you can. Quit playing by their rules. Take your money out of the system and stop contributing to our demise. The stock markets are rigged in their favor, your 401k's and retirement funds are ripe for confiscation - you are dealing with junkies addicted to your money - they will take from you (at gunpoint) every last penny if you let them. Buy local and barter whenever possible, avoid credit - it is debt slavery.

Make no mistake - dark times are coming, and many will not survive, let alone prosper. The country that comes out the other end of the troubles will be unrecognizable to most. Will it be a new feudalism, with lords and serfs (slavery for most), or a free and loving humanity - you get to decide by your actions in the near term.

Wow, is this the gloom and doom room? Mechanization and productivity increases has brought us untold wealth and we will be continuing down that path into the future. Yes, we are going to have to pay for the $ we are creating out of thin air to pay for wars and excessive government spending, but as a percentage it's not as bad as you all are letting on. Take a moment to look at all of the positive things, we are *** deep in them and they are everywhere if you just look.

For myself, I not only see gov't changing their attitudes, but I see many of my brother citizens seemingly being more self centered, cynical and entitled as well. That might be a bad combo-platter.

That said, the CNN story yesterday is that Jim Rogers is out of dollars. Not a bad thing to follow. You can set up a gov't insured savings account at Everbank and have them denominated in other currency. Yuan even.

Assuming that you guys have your mattress stuffed full already:)

Fiat currencies have no intrinsic value other than someone telling you it does. A mattress full wouldn't even heat your house on a cold night.

Wouldn't you stuff it with gold, whiskey, knifes, beads and other trade goods?

.... might get a bit lumpy I suppose......

I recommend that everybody rent the DVD, "Inside Job." It is a remarkably good and even entertaining documentary film (Oscar winning) that thoroughly details the whole evolution of the current economic collapse with scenes and interviews of the players and crooks that made it happen. The Crash was not some law of nature or accident of history. Step by step it was done with individual political decisions fostered by very greedy and essentially criminal bankers, who bought academic economists to sing their tune for the politicians to enact. All of them were well-rewarded by the bailouts that they also created, and none of them have even been legally investigated, much less prosecuted. The fix was in, and it stuck, and most of the corrupt and incompetent government officials supervising the train wreck have been appointed to even higher positions advising President Obama! It just cracks me up when people call Obama "Socialist" when he is totally in bed with Wall Street and the Ivy League economists that have destroyed the American economy, and profited highly from that. "Inside Job" does not have any ideological slant; it is NOT a "Leftist" documentary. It does not question the superiority of Capitalism, only the criminal mismanagement of it. This is an excellent film, and folks will "profit" from seeing it..........................elsullo

I recommend that everybody rent the DVD, "Inside Job."

That documentary glosses over government as the root cause and focuses on the Wall Street patsies. This book that correctly points the finger at government criminals as the root cause of the crisis: Amazon.com: Reckless Endangerment: How Outsized Ambition, Greed, and Corruption Led to Economic Armageddon (9780805091205): Gretchen Morgenson, Joshua Rosner: Books

Cooperative Wall Street firms like Goldman Sachs are nothing more than extensions of government. The greedy bankers are indistinguishable from the government power elite, they are one and the same. "Wall Street" is nothing more than a real life Emmanuel Goldstein used to distract suckers even as the government steals vast sums of money and distributes it to the favored and connected.

It does not question the superiority of Capitalism, only the criminal mismanagement of it.

"Criminal mismanagement of capitalism" is an oxymoron, true capitalism does not need top-down management.
