Stranger: How long will this drill bit last?
Me: Let's see... it's made in Germany, so that's usually a good sign!
Stranger: Did you know that Germany is the most socialist country in the world? I guess they didn't learn their lesson the last time!
Me: Well so is the whole EU?
Stranger: You're right!
...
I just think it's great what you kids are doing for guns these days!
Me: Yeah! I'm picking up a double barrel on Thursday! I'm super excited about it!
Stranger: what's that?
Me: An O/U shotgun?
Stranger: Is that an assault weapon?
Me: No...? "Eyebrow raises in disbelief"

We pleasantly said goodbye and parted ways.
I am still baffled, partly by how this person can form such opinions and part by their supposed right to vote on issues...

Post some ridiculous statements you have heard people say.

Nothing specific. It's when I hear something someone says that sounds like it came directly from the television news. I try desperately to convince them to question EVERYTHING that comes from the MSM. I'll say something like "If you hear something that sounds just terrible, question it. Don't take it for face value. Do some research before doing anything, or repeating it to/discussing it with others." That's all I feel like I can do?

I had one (1) particularly frustrating conversation with a young female idiot who had come down strongly on the side of making AR15's illegal (and gave a litany of dumb/misinformed arguments why). This person probably couldn't tell an AR15 apart from a black shotgun. Her only goal in her tiny brain (other than makeup and hair) is to neuter anything that could be construed as male/masculine.

I had a convo with a coworker yesterday. He just purchased a stripped lower for an AR on the advice of a friend. He's never been interested in MSR until recently. He had no idea about 80% lowers. He said that just doesn't seem right. I showed him pictures from Brownell's side by side to show him the difference, because he didn't think it would be legal. In fairness, more misinformed then anything as he usually shoots muzzle loaders. I told him o look up this forum. :D:p

Sadly, that is the main, driving force behind "gun control" and it always has been. It's worse today because of all the man-boys out there who get married to, or are in a relationship with their "second mommy - with benefits". Mentally, they have not gotten past the age of about 16. They expect to be taken care of. They don't see any responsibility to provide for their families. They are lost in their video games, comic book hero movies, recreational drugs, Xtreme sports, and hanging with their buds. Dead-end jobs are oh so uncool. Their women are OK with this because these man-boys are easy to control and the women hold all the power. This "gun thing" is a threat to that power and control. It smacks of masculine power and independence. It scares them.

The year and a half I spent in college (I'm 21), I heard some really asinine things, mainly from professors. But my favorite conversations were always with my buddy Dean from south GA. I distinctly remember one time we got into a big argument because he was certain that he was 1/36 Creek Indian because when he was a kid, he used to drink water out of the creek behind his house and he never got sick; so logically that makes him Creek Indian :s0114: . He also claims he has seen " the Chupacabra's they are cloning at the highschool." :D

The day after the Parkland shooting, I had a coworker who's in his late 20's and just had his first child about 9 months ago and whom I've had some casual conversations about guns, got in my face and said something along the lines of; "What are YOU going to do about this assault weapon problem that's killing our kids?".

I got right back into his and said; "What are YOU going to do to make sure your kid doesn't grow up to be a selfish, entitled, murderous, worthless bubblegum who can't deal with problems in the real world?".

The "discussion" ended there.

Yet again we have the belief that it is the gun that kills. I'm not going to state the obvious about that comment.

We had the same here in UK in 1988, and again in 1996 and 2010.

In the first two fallouts, the type of guns used, in part, to commit the crimes were banned [we know how well THAT worked out, don't we?]

In the third fallout nothing happened, because the things that had failed in the first two events had been rectified, and fault was judged to have been entirely down to the mental state of the perpetrator.

Incidentally, in all three events, the perpetrator committed suicide.

Relative: "Just look at Australia. They've solved their gun problem. We can't we?"

Me: Here, read this...

"Whatever you think of the merits of Australia's gun ban or the practicality of using it as a model for American gun control, it most certainly has not caused suicide or murder rates to plummet. Furthermore, Australia has seen violent crimes peak in the years following its ban while the United States experienced the exact opposite phenomenon.

Australia isn't much of a model for Australia, let alone for America."

Me: I just got my barrel in for my new build.
customer: What you building?
Me: A side charging AR.
customer: SWEET! how many you got in your arsenal to stop the evil?
Me: Not enough!!
customer: (laughing) I know that feeling!

Happened to be a retired police chief. I love some of my customers and wish they were all like him!

This conversation makes me happy...
I was considering starting a side charge build soon as well.

Here's another stupid one!
I had a coworker call in sick with "The Fever" and a "109 temp", supposedly. I told him he should be taking an ice bath or getting to the ER ASAP, and that most people would already be dead. I can't tell him no, unfortunately, so I had to play along.
