I saw that the Seven Feathers Casino is having a tattoo expo in September. Information here and here for those that are so interested.

Tattoos are simply not my cup of tea, and I don't have a single one, nor will likely ever do so, but the artistic endeavours can be appreciated. :)

Oddly enough, since you mention it...

There is ink that you can get done that only shows under ultraviolet lighting;).

You know you want to be the talk of the town at the Friday night bowling ally:D
That's actually kinda cool...it could neat use the "ultraviolet ink" as a "highlight or a enhancement" on the art ...if you can mix and match tattoo ink...

I got a new one today, as a matter of fact. Decided that the 2A will go with me to the grave......

I don't have any tattoos, nor the desire for any. But I enjoy seeing good ones on guys. Assuming they are tasteful. Ie no swasticas, or sexual crudities, or put downs of women.

They can be art for arts sake. Or they can be chosen to try to display the essential nature of the man, or his interests or accomplishments. I confess to really enjoying watching MMA, and a lot of the tattoo work on those guys is really glorious. And more than once I've asked a guy behind me in a checkout line what his tatoo meant. That's fun.

The novel Stone Song, by Blevins, is a fictionalized biography of the famous Lakota warrior His Crazy Horse. One interesting thing I learned was every aspect of how the warriors decorated themselves for battle, or for the triumphant return to the village after, had explicit meaning. Some was drawn from their coming of age vision. Much of the rest denoted specific accomplishments. Killing an enemy from horseback, killing an enemy when on foot, being wounded with a bullet, being wounded with an arrow, having led a successful war party, having stolen horses, etc--these martial accomplishments and dozens of others were all spelled out with war paints, feathers, and other decorations.

These days, when we are so often dealing with strangers, perhaps it's no surprise that increasing numbers of men are using tattos to tell the world a little bit about who they are. And, where appropriate, to gracefully hint at an appropriate warning. Sort of like the flag with the rattlesnake and the motto "Don't tread on me."

Most men want to be seen for qualities they don't have. Ones they feel they lack?
And I'm no exception.
Strange. When we all have soo many good qualities?

Pride I guess?

Often tattoos are what you want the world to see and think of you. Not who you really are.
They say different things to different people.

So no. I have no tattoos on my skin.
But get to know my story. And I'm colorful enough on the inside. ;)
A novel that had a huge impact on me was Mother Night, by Kurt Vonnegut. The core sentence was something to the effect that you should be careful what you pretend, because that is what you become. And indeed, to become something, pretending to be it is a good way to start.

So I'd say, go ahead and proclaim your vision of who you would like to be on your skin. Then start acting in keeping with your vision.

The most awesome thing on the internet is "tattoo fail" image search results.
Goddamn, there's some dumb people.
One guy I asked about a tat on his hand. "What is that?"
"A spider."
"But it only has six legs. Spiders have eight legs."
"I know that now."
