So, take aways - 1. Just cause the Internet said: doesn't mean it applies to you
2. the po - po don't like competition.

"Steele is being charged with possession of an electronic weapon, which is a felony, because he doesn't have a concealed carry permit for his Taser.

"You can have it in your home and on your private property without a concealed carry permit, but you do need to keep a concealed carry permit to carry it out in public," said Officer Lisa Barrix, with the La Crosse Police Department."

Stupid that it's a felony. Stupid it could be a misdemeanor.

Then again, here in wonderful Oregon, your Concealed Handgun License is only good for that - and carrying certain less lethal or non-lethal weapons could wind up with you in legal troubles as well.

2nd Amendment doesn't say "Firearms" it says "Arms" - which should include blades, bludgeons, stun guns, and 8x10's of Rosie O'Donnell making out with Ginny Burdick.

Hopefully the DA there in LaCrosse isn't a douchewaffle (ha, second term I've borrowed from another thread today) and the guy who tried to help doesn't wind up eating a worse rap than the twit he tried stopping. No good deed goes unpunished.

That is Wisconsin law, not Oregon

In Oregon it is: (http://www.oregonlaws.org/ors/163.213)
  1. A crime in the first degree if a person unlawfully uses an electrical stun gun, tear gas or mace and knowingly discharges or causes it to be discharged against another person, knowing the other person to be a peace officer, corrections officer, parole and probation office, fire fighter or emergency technician or paramedic while the other person is acting in the course of official duty; and

  2. Unlawful use of an electrical stun gun, tear gas or mace in the first degree is a Class C felony.

This guy is just too stupid.
He bought a taser off the internet and his only legal research was believing what the seller stated on the website.
Then started carrying it around thinking it was legal.
Then decides to stop an armed robbery with a weapon that requires you to be inches from the threat.
Then activates the taser while moving towards the threat thus alerting the criminal to his actions.
Really?
