A 28-year-old robbery suspect who was hospitalized after being shot by an armored truck security guard on Saturday was upgraded to stable condition today, a Eugene police spokeswoman said.
The man initially was taken to the hospital in critical condition, police said.
The man's identity has not been released by police, who continue to guard the suspect at the hospital.
The man was shot multiple times by a truck guard in front of the Albertsons grocery store at Santa Clara Square on Division Avenue around 3:40 p.m. Saturday. Witnesses disputed whether they heard three or five shots fired.
Neither of the two security guards assigned to the armored truck was injured.
A witness to the scene told The Register-Guard on Saturday that the suspect appeared to have been armed with a can of Mace and a screwdriver. Police spokeswoman Melinda McLaughlin said Sunday that she wasn't sure what weapons were displayed, but that she believed there was no firearm.
