Our dog got a damn foxtail down the snoot or throat and is off an on sneezing like crazy.

Normally St. Francis 24 hour vet has been very good to us but they don't have a night vet right now (little miffed about being turned away after a 25 min drive out there) they should treat their vets better and they wouldn't quit on them. Sorry, some other issues about corporate BS is being triggered.

The option in Vancouver is Columbia and they have had a few trauma cases so at 9pm they are expecting a min of a 6 hour wait.

Other places are out in Beaverton and Tigard I guess but the dogs breathing fine and the sneezing is slowing down.

Figured he would be more relaxed at home then waiting 6 hours at a vet with a whole ton of other people.

Keep your pets safe, especially over the next 24-36 hours or expect really long wait times.

It may be a really long night but I hope not for my little buddies sake.

Sorry to hear about your pup Joe.
Another emergency clinic to remember is VCA NW Vet Specialists in Clackamas off HWY 212.
Kind of far out there but in an emergency they are another option.

Thanks for pointing that out!

Dog still sneezes every. Ow an then but slept all night.

I'm going to take him in for a checkup on Wednesday after work as long as he stays stable.

I spent the cost of a pretty nice used pickup truck at the WSU animal clinic because of a foxtail - pretty near killed my dog before we got it figured out. Cracked his chest open, cleaned out a lot of bad crap between his lungs and chest wall, took out one damaged lobe from his right lung, 8 days in ICU and a month of painkillers, antibiotics and the like.

Foxtails are the devil's work.

Ouch man that sucks big time but worth it for a pet for some of us.

We may not be dealing with a fox tail - it was just the first thing that came to mind because I've pulled a few off him.

Went to the vet this morning. Only an hour wait so we figured we better just get it done as it doesn't seem to be sorting itself out on its own.

Doc thinks it may be a tooth pain or alregies as he isn't exhibiting the signs of a fox tail.

Gave him an antibiotics shot that should last 14 days and said to keep an eye on him. I liked the doctor and he was very thorough so I'm going to trust his judgement.

Was going to do a brisket today but decided burgers and dogs would save me 14 hours of work so we are low key with a few friends tonight and that works for me. Gotta keep an eye on the dog but we have a long standing tradition of having the 4th at our house anyway. Kid invites her friends and we invite ours. BBQ then blow some money up to keep em coming back.

One of my best friends is a fireworks hater but messaged me that he will be bring some; his oldest was lighting stuff off left and right last year which was all good with me but it ircked him a little. It's kind of like teaching a kid to shoot, fireworks are just as fun when the youngins are setting them off;).

Going to be tranquilizing one of mine before I go to work tonight. Female has never seemed to care about the booms. Her ears will pick up and she will lay back down. Male starts shaking all over and hiding. Last few nights it's been short. So tonight for the long one he will sleep through it. :)

My GSD doesn't react to fireworks at all, gunshot training as a pup.

That said, out here in eastern Washington I get pretty ferocious winds whipping by the house - I'm at the top of an exposed ridge - and they sometimes sound like a freight train going by. When they get really bad the dog - who otherwise would never get in my bed when I'm occupying it - will jump up and settle down in a corner to "protect" me from the sounds outside.

I feel for ya WWShooter. I hope your pup makes a full recovery.
My dog is currently dealing Endocarditis which turned into Congestive Heart Failure. Sick pets suck. Regardless how much it costs. Shows just how helpless they are and how much they depend on us to be healthy.

He got a little xanax tonight and other then feeling left out of the party (which was outside and he was inside in his crate) he seems to be doing very well.

Doc said it may take a couple days for the full effect to kick in but he seems to already be much improved.

Thanks for the well wishes and my best to y'all that your fur babies make it safe and sane thru the rest of the night.
