I have a full status update on the Tabuk posted on my blog – lots of pictures of the engraved parts as well as the unfinished stock from Ironwood. I’m just about ready do start putting the whole thing together. At this point I’m only really missing one part (the M70 buttpad with screws) – I think I’ve got a front sight detent and spring that will work (cannibalized from an AMD-65 front sight).

I do have one question for those of you who have built the real thing, though. On spot welding the rail to the receiver, when? The only welding I’ve done is arc welding for solid state inorganic synthesis (ask me about ternary phosphides!). I know I can’t have all of the “guts” of the weapon installed when I spot weld for a lot of reasons, but how much can I actually build before I need to get that spot welding done???

Pretty pictures and the full update here: <broken link removed>
