SWISS SCHMIDT RUBIN 1911

Model 1911 chambered in 7.5x55mm Swiss (GP11). The 1911 pattern built from an earlier Model 1896. Barrels and sights were replaced and a pistol grip mated to the stock (or a new stock provided) along with a new 6-round magazine and appropriate trigger guard.

I love my 1896/11, the swiss really did make great rifles!

Looking at the rifle pictured, it is a 1911 rather than a 96/11, unless there is something I missed which suggests otherwise. The lack of a curved buttplate, glued on pistol grip, and a few other features distinct to the converted rifles gives it away. Some were refurbished or built using 1911 stocks like stated above which I thought could be the case, but according to swisswaffen.com, 1896/11 rifles were only numbered up to serial number 349000.

Something very interesting I discovered when looking at swisswaffen's database of schmidt-rubin production numbers, is that the last production of regular infantry 1911 rifles ended in 1919 with serial number 482000. Meaning that your rifle was one of the last 100 produced! At least according to the swiss rifle database and not including any private series rifles produced after main production ended.

I hope it finds a good owner soon! For anybody interested, PPU still commonly imports 7.5x55 ammo, and it is easily reloadable using .308 projectiles (if you can find brass)!
