Years of competition has proved almost none of us can reliably count over 3 when in a stress situation, so we need to follow what training & visualization we have.
There is a lot of data that shows that very few will accurately recall details, especially immediately afterwards.

Which has what to do with using a suppressed firearm for home defense?

If I had more money, I would probably set up a 9mm SBR with a suppressor running subsonic ammo. I have pretty sensitive hearing which I'd like to keep. Of course I would take an unsuppressed gun over nothing but if I had a choice I'd take the suppressor on a shouldered weapon and just write it off as good as gone because it will be taken away as evidence and likely not returned. A friend I trust has told me shooting suppressed pistols is not pleasant nor good for performance, so I wouldn't suppress a pistol.

Hmm, dunno about that.

Plus there are also braced pistols, so one need not double tax stamp (SBR), if one chooses.
Suppressed pistols are harder to tune. There is a lot more mass out there (especially for tilting barrel designs) and the can changes the recoil impulse. There are just more variables and a narrower sweet spot to hit.

But once you do get them tuned they run just fine. Bonus points if they also run just fine unsuppressed and don't beat the frame up with excessive recoil.

Flow through cans help a lot it seems to me. I've never done any sort of "tuning" with any pistol I own and they all run suppressed (I mean the ones with threaded barrels) and unsuppressed with no malfunctions.

I should have been more specific. I meant bad for performance, as in they can be awkward to shoot due to all the weight out at the front, and that most pistols use a tilting barrel action that causes the suppressor (and all that weight) to flop around with each trigger pull. I don't mean that the gun will be useless, but that it will be harder to get splits that are as fast and with as much accuracy on a suppressed handgun vs an unsuppressed handgun.

You're right on about the braced pistols. I should have specified that I meant non-braced handguns. I would prefer an SBR because I like stocks, but I may change my mind after more trigger time on a braced firearm.

I suppress everything. Never had issues tuning any browning action pistol.
You guys have all the luck it seems. 3 out of 4 of mine have had issues with my Rugged Obsidian 9 in the long configuration. The short configuration has been no problem for any of them but when I put the extra baffles on I get short stroking and failures to eject. I still need to order weaker springs for a few of them, including the flux.
