Would I be correct, that is the Marine Corps Loaded Operator? Looks sharp, grips are like my TRP Operator . . . they bite the hand after a bit, but they sure do prevent slip. I'm sure you'll have a Blast with it!

MC Operator, correct. My first impression of the grips, I liked them. The more I handle them, I tend to agree.
I'm looking into other options.

I'm still looking into other options for grips. But they'll remain VZ.
A little upgrade is on the way. Chen Customs Magwell

The magwell arrived, and installed. Nice, worthy addition, in matte stainless.
Along with a couple stickers, and one of my favorites, M&M Peanuts. Nice touch.
And a Thank-You letter, personally signed by the man himself. :)

Sorry to butt in, but I am also wanting a 1911 and I see these for $500 and wanted to ask the group there thoughts on one of these for a guy that has never even held a 1911?
Springfield 1911 Mil-Spec 45 ACP Defender Series Pistol
SPRINGFIELD 1911 DEFENDER 45 ACP 5"

What caliber?

After hit and miss reading replies, I didn't see anyone ask:

1. What caliber?
2: what finish?
3. What do you want it for?
4. Hell-bent on "traditional" 45ACP 1911's, or variants?
5. Barrel length a consideration?

How about a Coonan? Or an AMT-III (30 carbine or 9mm WIN MAG), AMT-IV (45 WIN MAG or 10mm) or AMT-IV (50AE)?

Stainless or blued?

4"? 5"? 6"?

Thanks for asking.
1. in .45
2. Don't really care
3. For joy of owning and I hear they are one of the best shooters ever, and there historical connection.
4. Hell bent on a traditional .45 acp 1911
5. Full size, I assume that means a 5" barrel, I want what Uncle Marley and Uncle Willard carried on D day or reasonably close to it.

I don't know Coonan and am not interested in a 9mm or .38 super. I want a basic traditional 1911, I like both stainless and blue but would be happy with a parkerized finish, I want decent quality, but am cheap in nature so..
5" sounds about right.

Edit to add I would be happy with a used 1911 with some patina.
