I buy 100 packs of 12ga 7 shot at Walmart for $20 or bulk .22lr.

The rest of it I only buy if it's a screaming deal.

But I have enough at this point I'm not jonesing so waiting for super low stuff is not hard.

Aside from that, if you need bulk then set aside cash until you can place a bulk order.

Buy ammo when its low even for calibers you do not use.
Example ammo at bimart 18.88 a box for 500 22LR if it ever gets scarce easy trade value.
I got a ton of 7.62x39 trading for the 22LR I had bought years earlier for 9.99 for 500. Ammo think long term.
Thats how I do it. Even traded ammo for a firearm.... when it was scarce.

You can take 50.00 or 75.00 a month put in a drawer, or savings. And in a few months you have enough to buy a few cases. Do small ever week and put away too.
I do that for other things move stuff around forget about it and go oh yea there is that stash.. lol
The more you can afford the lower the prices usually are.

Make more money. Not being silly here; change jobs, do side work, bang out Intratube gigs, whatever. If you are young, strong, and smart, this is no problem. If you are less young, but have the rest, it can still work. Frankly, in this economy, the world is your oyster. Godspeed, amigo. :s0155:

Something with every paycheck.
Defensive ammo, local ammo on sale (bimart) there is always something to buy. Simply chip away at it over time.
Usually two-four boxes at a time. 3/4 in the ammo can, 1/4 for the range. It builds over time. That or save until you can buy one or two cases at the same time with shipping.

I shoot way more .22 and 12g now (with pistol stuff too) just saves money but gets that cost effective range trip for the month.

To be clear with the above, I was not wishing to be dismissive. In most of my adult life I've worked steady as a software developer and so have done well in said. But as someone who was born dirt poor as me, I had to be, how to put this, be very creative, and more accurately work like a madman. So I respect those who are trying to figure things out, and will back any fellow traveler. (I've been so blessed to be able to help others in their journey. And anyone who comes to this patch, we'll fill you up with much food and drink you'll have trouble walking.)

I remember, six years ago, I had a weird idea that I'd keep crunching out code during the day, but since I had, and continue to have, horrible insomnia, and we had a new baby, I'd drive cab at night. My beloved told me, unequivocally, no, so I stop this inquiry. Be that as it may, this clip may be funny, albeit in a dark way:

And the "pew" buying scene, for fun.

what do you guys do when you can't afford to purchase 1k rounds at a time? Looking for ideas to stockpile ammo without skipping a meal. Thanks!

Save up enough money to be able to afford purchasing the 1000 rounds at a time.

If all you are doing is squirreling it away. Whether you buy some of the 1000 now as smaller more expensive per round quantities, or you wait 6 months and buy all the thousand as a case at a slightly cheaper per round price. It should generally make no difference, but require some planning financially to save the specific amount by the specific time.

Buy an inexpensive single stage press, some used reloading books, and used cheap brass and components discounted here on the forum. There is something on sale here every week. Salt away as well as ammo on sale.

Sell your wifes jewelry, take your kids lawn mowing money as rent to prepare them for the future, sell tires or your neighbors gravel. Sell your dogs bubblegum on Ebay as dinosaur poop.

I just buy 100 to 200 rounds a paycheck. Or more if you can

I wait until bimart has a sale and federal has a rebate out.
Fisherman's is selling 124gr seller bellot for $8 a box right now.
Shop the sales and buy more than you shoot!

Half of your ammo that you purchase should go into long term storage. No matter how little you buy, you are still building.

Look at ways to store food and water as well.

Look for a city exit strategy.

Ammo is the least important thing...until the day after you can't buy it.

Look at the little things you may spend money on , like coffee from a coffee stand and instead of buying that , buy ammo instead...
Save a little at a time and buy a box or two when you can...
If you have more than one gun or caliber , concentrate one just buying ammo for one gun or caliber at a time...

Whats next, tell us to stop eating bacon and steak >?

$20 every week or every other week.

Budget roughly $60-$100 a month towards ammo or reloading supplies.

If your struggling with stocking up, look at your overall spending on everything you buy monthly. Find ways to make compromises in other aspects.

If your still having a hard time, your not prioritizing it enough.

I dealt blackjack for two different companies that put on Company parties and the like. Made about $20/hour with tips.

The work was very seasonal, but I made enough around the holidays each year to buy both guns and ammo. In 2018, I bought myself a Colt AR and other goodies.

When the wife would ask "where'd the money come from for that?" I'd just smile and say that it was "black jack funded".

Say it ain't so People on this website SHOP AT WAL~MART NO WAY
I have read so MUCH B.S. about how wal mart is terrible and yet people shop there for ammo.
I think we have some hypocrisy here
I support my sporting goods stores that are local except DICK'S don't support them
every time I go to WAL~MART or Bi-Mart Sportsmans WHSE I buy one box of what ever I think I need but only one box So unless your going shooting every day you should have a stock pile between trips to the range .
and then when I turn in my scrap metal ie: beer a pop cans i'll buy a bulk amount

I'm at the point where if I never buy 1 more round I'll never shoot what I have

I just donated 2500 rds of 22lr to the boy scouts
