On the barrel you'll see an S for its conversion to the Spitzer 8x56R. Underneath the S, there will be a proof mark or two along with a date. They can be very faint, but mine is 1916 from the 16. That's how you find the year on them.

It is a nice rifle. wn for Wein acceptance stance I believe signifies acceptance by the Austrian military in 1917. GLWS.
