steyr m95/24 rebuild

I picked up a used/ destroyed steyr m95/24 this is a strait pull gun, the head of the bolt rotates and the handle does not..
The .243 win, has the same size head/rim on the cartridge although it is a good bit shorter, I am thinking of having the barrel swapped out to a nice .243 and giving it to the wife for a deer rifle.
anyone ou there ever done this, problems .. pros /cons?
