how old are you?
Has this gone on while living in the same house?
Have you contacted the mayo clinic?

Yes
No
I will add OHSU to my list of places to try, but I believe you have to find a doctor that is interested enough in your case to take it on as a research project to get it for free and I do not have the kind of funds available that would be needed to pay for it out of pocket.

A few people have sent me links to doctors (EDIT: including naturopath and nutritionists- I have seen a few) that have helped them which was greatly appreciated but unfortunately I will not be able to afford them for awhile (6-24 months depending on how life goes for me).

I have saved all of the info for when I can take advantage of it.

I'll try to keep this short, "They" pushed that it was all mental stress but I have found a specialist that has given me ultra high doses of antibiotics that are effective within 24 hours but I can only use them for 2 weeks at a time and only about twice a year because there are no long term use tests. This tells me it is physiological and phycological, although I'm sure life stresses do exacerbate it.

It's a continuing adventure - I'm not old enough to deal with this the rest of my life so I'm far from geving up;)

I've been up, I've been down.
6-7 years ago I dropped 50lbs from my heaviest.
Over the past 5 I put back on most of it, 40, mostly due to my job sitting 10-12 hrs / work day.

And being lazy. And liking food. Plus lazy.

I am following:

& will see how I do over this year.

My job also consists of crawling around under houses and in attics so that keeps me a little active.

There are 2 plumbers trucks at the gym when I get there in the morning - not sure who the guys are - but nice they can use the company truck to maintain their health.

@Joe13 - you need a p00p replacement. I am not a doctor and I have no business diagnosing you.
But, it sounds like the bio environment in your digestive track is out of whack.
- killing it off with "horse pills" makes you better for a while -
You can search for this - there is a growing movement.

Finding the proper healthy donor, that is a different issue.
There are 2 ways to get the bacteria inside, neither sounds pleasant.

here is a general starting article:

"There are only two real treatment options for drug-resistant strains of the bacteria. One is an über powerful antibiotic (that wipes out good and bad bacteria alike, making the gut vulnerable to recolonization by friend or foe). The other is a fecal transplant by enema, colonoscopy, or a nasal tube to the gut."

You may be right and I have done some research on it. While it sounds disgusting, going without BBQ and Mexican food is worse by far.

I have to schedule another appointment with my GI soon and will ask if they support or do that there.

I have gone thru a TON of bacteria killing and replacement regimens but most didn't work and some only helped a little but not enough to justify the continued cost. I was up to around $600 a month in pills at one point and around only half of that was covered.

I could have had a lot of guns in a nice safe for what I've paid in medical costs over the last 6 years.

Always appreciate alternative options.

Appologies for the slight theadjacking OP.

Don't apologize, Joe, that was very interesting and I feel for you!
I have been losing weight by way of keeping my blood glucose level under control. I have so many injured or worn out body parts, including stroke damage and sleep apnea, that walking is about what I can muster. I have become one of the saddest of things, a mall walker.:( But! I'm a lot better off than a lot others and I'm very thankful for that!:)

Joe, have you had anyone pray for your healing? I have prayed for people and seen God heal herniated discs, broken collar bones, numb shoulders and arms, staff infections. I have seen legs grow out (which I believe is really just hips adjusting from being out of alignment). But in all cases I would consider them miraculous healing as they happened in seconds or minutes, not hours or days. I am not suggesting this instead of seeing a doctor but there is power in prayer.

Having been rather seriousluy injured in the past, and LONG waits for proper diagnisis and surgeries to repair, I've got a lot of things I used to do but no longer can.... distance running (have done a marathon, used to run cros country), canoeing, rowing, (shells and "normal" boats), I'm pretty restricted from nearly every form of cardio workouts.... but, having ridden road bikes since early high school, I find I CAN still do that, although neck issues force me to a more upright position than I'd liike. I'm not up there pratending I'm a spinnaker, just not way down like I used to be. But I ride... pretty much year round, four or five thousand miles a year. Almost al my errands get done on the bike, visiting, etc.... hundred plus mile days (yes, I've done the STP in one day several different years, best time twelve hours gate to gate.. not bad for "an old guy", I'd think.

Any of the strength training routines I've tried help to keep my strength up, but without significant cardio I find I gain weight, don't sleep as well, aches and pains abound, I get lethargic, lazy, grumpy... and fat. BUT, with a decent amount of time on the road bike it all comes in line well enough to make everything else acceptible.

My recommendation, seconded by others far more knowledgable than I, is to always make certain you get the cardio workout somehow... I have a stationary bike (and a rowing machine, but the back and shoulders have a hard time with that.. injury aftermath) but hate it... BORING is the word. When the monsoons settle in for the duration I try and force myself to get on that thing for at least half an hour a few times a week. I watch the weather ahead and plan to make time to ride on the dry and less wet days. I enjoy it very much, which helps. I do miss the other vigourous sports I used to do.. runing would be SO eacy to do, but the rhythmic pounding drives a spike into my spine between my shoulder blades..... a mile is the most I can tolerate. So I ride. And ride. And ride some more.

But do SOMETHING seriousl cardio. Get that heart rate well up into Zone 3 (get a heart rate monitor, Polar are the best, and get Sally Edwards' book on using the heart rate monitor as a tool for conditioining and health). for at least half an hour at least three times per week.

I pretty much detest running but there is no denying the time efficiency of getting in a good workout by just heading out the door for a run. Hiking is great exercise and fun but for me time consuming by the time I drive to a trailhead somewhere.

What I really like these days is Jiu Jitsu. Mainly gi Jiu Jitsu. You might try that. Gi Jiu Jitsu means you are wearing a kimono and the sport involves takedowns, holds and submission that allow you to grab the clothing. The nice thing about the gi is that it slows the game down enough so injuries are far less likely. You might look into your local Brazilian Jiu Jitsu gym and see what you think.

i swim 1/2 mile, 3 times a week work permitting. if i'm working full time or OT i don't get the swims in so much but i do heavy physical work as part of my job. stretching/yoga is a must. spinal compression. i started taking youngevity nutritional supplements 4 yrs ago along with some other supplements, completely cut out gmo and mostly eat organic. i also haven't eaten any sea products out of the pacific ocean since fukushima blew. i lost 50 lbs since starting that and am 5'10" at about lean 180lbs at 55 yrs old. my knee and joint cartlidge is coming back along with my hair loss reversing. haven't been sick once this winter. had a sniffle and scratchy throat for 2-3 days last yr. and i eat a fair amount of brain foods. animal fats.

I have actually .

I am terrified of needles and have been to the point of trying acupuncture for a few months - it did actually help for about 12-24 hours strangely enough but no feasible way to pay for that to be done daily or even really weekly.

I'm only 39 and have another hundred in me I'm sure - I have faith that this ailment will get fixed one way or another. It's just a PITA while I try and get there.

I appreciate any and all advice that has been given - I am obviously to the point where I'll try dang near anything I can afford.:)

Walk. Just walk.
It's so simple it goes over most peoples heads.

Find a quiet path along the streets and parks of your hood. And walk until you built up to an hour long walk. 45 minutes if you can walk fast [About four miles]. Do it seven days a week!

Don't have the time?

Well what fit's your schedule better.
Exercising 1 hour a day? Or being dead 24? o_O

RE: Walking. Is that at one stretch or cumulative?

Some years back I saw a study which indicated that you need to go 30 mins (minimal) non-stop and that over 60 (non-stop) starts down the path of diminishing returns.

I have also read that is just cumulative - so put a step counter in your phone and check.
A minute from your desk to the coffee maker, a minute to the restroom to get rid of the coffee, it all adds up.

What's real?
