When I'm looking for a good long range place to shoot - I use Google Earth to look around in the forest for clearings where I can make long shots.
I then print out the GPS coordinate's and drive there to check things out. This saves me a lot of time and gas money, as opposed to just driving around looking for good shooting spots.
When I get there, I make sure I will not be shooting over roads or water ways, Hiking trails or campsites, and that I have a good backstop.
This saves a lot of time and often produces great results.
