Any body out there had or having trouble with Stan Baker Shooting Sports? Lost your gun on consignment? Can't get your gun repaired in the time promised? Screwed up your gun? Showed up by appointment and not be there? This is what is going on. It is only a matter of time before he goes under.

Hello All,

I just went by there an hour ago. There is a notice posted on the door saying that he was shut down for back taxes. I have two guns in there for repair. Where do you guys suggest that I start?

Racebannon (nice user name!),
Maybe the ATF? They have a Seattle field office: <broken link removed> I would bet that they will be happy to help you sort this out. Keep us posted on your progress.

Good luck,

Start by contacting Bill the owner of Stan Baker Shoot Sports. His Cell phone # is 206 601 7641 and his Home # is 425 742 3201. The trouble is, he is incapable of giving a straight answer.

I can see why he's having financial difficulties even though the gun business is booming. I had him do some gunsmithing work for me a few years ago. He told me 10 days and it ended up being closer to 3 months! Very poor customer service.

I sure hope everybody gets their firearms back. Please keep us posted and good luck!

Inquirer,

Thanks for the phone numbers. I spoke with Bill yesterday. He told me that he is trying to get his affairs in order and get back into business. I really hope he does. I've taken several guns to him over the last few years and have always been pleased with his work. I certainly don't mean to minimize experiences others may have had with his shop, but he's treated me well and I hate the idea of losing a gunsmith or a gun related shop here in Seattle. Thanks again and I'll let you guy's know what happens.

I had some gunsmithing work done on my Beretta shotgun at DGS just a few blocks down the street from the Stan Baker location and was very happy with the work, done on-time and for the amount quoted.

Question; Why would any one want to intrust Bill with their prize firearm if there is a remote possibility that Bill may go belly up and not be able to get it back??????? Or; why would anyone trust Bill with a gun on consignment and not get the money, when he sold the rifle as stated by previous bloggers??? And; why would ony one trust Bill with their firearm if there is probable possibility of Bill screwing up the repair of the gun as with ME?????? With me, I have to spend a thousand dollars to replace the barrel on my rifle after Bill screwed it up. If you want the details blog on to City Search as with three other horror stories by other bloggers. Thanks, but no thanks. I will drive to **** and back before I trust Bill with anything.

You could use a thousand question marks and I still won't be able to answer your questions. Everyone has to make their own decisions. I'm not asking anybody to trust anyone. I would just like to see the guy get squared away and repair his reputation. The last job I took to Bill was an 85 year old Smith & Wesson lemonsqueezer that is out of time. Now Bill may turn out to be a flake and I may never see that gun again but my options are limited.
I have a 1917 Colt that needs a trigger job. Where am I supposed to take that? Central Gun Exchange? Warshall's maybe? I hate to see the old shops close because in most cases the new ones can't help me.

Have you received your firearms from Bill yet?

In response to your above quote.Yes, it saddens me that he may have to close up. His 50+ years of accumulated parts are irreplaceable. However; the business is only as good as the person running it. And Bill has ran that business into the ground with poor attitude, poor service and poor workmanship. I hope all the people concerned get their firearms back. In the future, for someone to trust his firearm to Bill for repair or consignment is going to be an uphill battle.

Just came across this thread yesterday. Bill has (or had) one my guns handed down to me by my grandfather. Has anyone out there had any succes in getting their property back or made any progress in figuring out how to do so? This issue f**king galls me.
