I purchased this 30 years ago from my Grampa's neighbor. He was in his 70s and did not know the history other than they played with it as kids. It was missing the hammer, ejector, and cleaning rod. Those have been replaced with reproductions. I fired this 5 times with black powder hand loads. The first two were while it was sandbagged in a tire with white paper over the breach. No signs of any blow back. The last three were while holding the rifle. Only 4282 is visible on the serial number. Another member thought it may have been made in the first quarter of 1874. This is rifle length.
As this has been sitting for many years time to let it go. The bore is fair. The stock was sanded and stained. I have a lot of additional photos I can send via email.
