Very nice!
There were a coulple of those floating around my family when I was younger....my great uncle was in the Oregon NG before WW2, ended up with a few when they closed an armory. Grandpa sold one to some guy at the coast for next to nothing
, I ended up with a "parts gun" that I sold to a local collector who was super into them ( like hundreds ), knowing that he could bring it back.

( half tempted to offer my AK in trade... )

This is not meant as a "thread crap" ... So please do not take it that way.
There are no "1878" Springfield Rifles.
There are a series of rifles however , that have a "3" stamp that looks like an "8"
This stamping is either from a worn stamp or a heavier than normal hit to the stamp.
My rifle is stamped this way as well.
The rifle in the OP is a beautiful example of the 1873 Springfield Rifle.
The rifle in the OP has the Buffington rear sight ,,, first issued in 1884.
Again this in not a "thread crap"...
Just posting some information.
Good luck in your sale ... Someone is going to end up with a fine rifle!
