Well I have been wanting to do this for awhile.

I spent the afternoon at the Josephine County Sportsman Park shooting at Rogue Valley Sporting Clays.

Here are a few pictures.

I had a great time. It's been a long time sense I have went through 5 boxes of shells.

The 16ga worked out great. Just wish I had a few more empties.

It's been over 15 years since i did sporting clays, it was fun, but it was a corporate event with their guns and i didn't know much about it back then, it'd be nice to do again.

It is setup real nice. I was the only one out there. The stations can be programmed with a 2 second delay (or how ever long you need) after the last button is pressed. Works on doubles and singles and it remembers.

I think it was station 5 that had a clay acting like a rabbit. It rolled along the ground. It was cool!

Oh my, that looks like a heck of a lot of fun. (Alas, I never lived near a place with such a facility, that I'm aware of, but most assuredly, it would be fun to try.) 'gratz. :)

Out of curiosity, why is steel shot banned?

I'm not sure. I do know that they don't want shot over size 6 because they say it travels to far.

What you don't see in the last picture is the skeet range facing you. A safe distance away.

There is only 10 stations open during the winter but starting March all 15 will be open.

Yesterday reminded me of dove hunting in Arizona when I first learned to hunt and reload. I would go through box after box opening day. I would be so excited I couldn't hit anything, but I kept trying! I really need to get back down there and do it one more time.

If one ever gets around to Las Vegas, the Clark County Shooting Complex has Sporting Clays. The wife and I used to park our RV there on our way to Quartzsite. We would visit with my oldest brother and shoot trap and also at the pistol range. It's a really nice facility and they have shotguns to rent if you don't want to travel with yours.

When my sister and BIL lived in Vegas, that was something that we always did when we were down for a visit. We went to the Clark County Shooting Complex once for sporting clays. I think we went 2-3 times to Hurricane, Utah to their sporting clays complex. Lots of fun.

Was it any good? ... I never did get to try it there. Can't remember where I did try it and sucked at it, but the trap range there is where I learned that the diabetic damage to my right eye means I can never shoot shotgun again. Fortunately my left eye is still good and have learned to shoot pistol cross-eyed. With rifle I just squint thru the scope, can't use iron sights any more.

bbbass... How long have you been going to Quartzsite? Did you know the owners of the store there, Don and Lois Moore? She was my 5th grade teacher when she was teaching.

Thats my neck-of-the-woods area. Dove hunting was done between Parker and Blythe on the Colorado River Indian Tribe (CRIT) land.

I used to love dove hunting. We lived in San Diego and Calexico was close enough to make good trips. Pass shooting was the order of the day. Those little aerial acrobats sure know how to duck, dive, swerve, etc. Yup, high round count. We didn't always have dogs so the flat bare agri fields made finding them a little easier.

My former bozz used to accuse me of shooting "songbirds". But they are easy to breast and were pretty good marinated overnight in red wine, onion, and parsley.

The one and only grocery store? The one with the butcher's section? Didn't know those folks other than to order meat from the back counter.

We started going there just after Y2K and continued til a few years ago when my eyesight went bad. Enjoyed it a lot. Went to Parker for shopping at Walmart and lunch at the casino. Also went to Blythe for shopping but once we moved the RV there for a month while the big shows were in Quartzsite. We enjoyed our stay right on the Colorado River and the fresh grapefruit for $0.10 apiece was fabulous!!!

It was ok. It has been a few years now but I remember liking the set up in Hurricane more than Clark County. It was lots of fun at either place but it seemed like the facility in Hurricane had a more natural feel to it. As in they set it up in the terrain that was there, trees and such. I don't remember many trees at Clark County. ;)

The spouse and I went last September 11. We'd heard some good reports and visited their website. We stayed in Grants Pass and bought some shot at Northwest Shot Mfg in Phoenix OR.

We had a great time shooting through the trees and with many different presentations. We rented their golf cart, visited the club house and very nice grounds and facilities. The only down side was the local and state LEOs were having an ammo dump party. Now I've been around some and in the Army but have never heard so much fire power at one time. It sounded like a full on battle that lasted a long time. There must have been baskets full of brass when they were through. Not pleasant as the Sporting course's last three stations were very close to the impact burm. We did not go there. Check the schedule before you go. Rogue Sporting Sep 2019.jpg

The best club for shotgun sports is Mid-Valley Clays & Shooting School Welcome - Mid-Valley Clays & Shooting School near Gervais, right off I-5 and 99 between Portland and Salem.
They have skeet, trap, and a great sporting course. Golf carts are available for rent as are gun carts and gun rentals as well as sales.
Mgr Dave Feilder is a renowned target setter and provides both easy and near impossible targets to try. I used to shoot skeet till I tried sporting clays. With all the variable presentations I like this sport best of all. Afterwards, there are picnic tables for lunch, lots of shooting supplies in the clubhouse. Best place in the valley for shooting shotguns.
