Well, I just got back from ER visit #2. Different hospital. This time they put a scope up my nose, and how ironic as he's looking around my throat through the camera up my nose I start to heave. Badly. My stomach was totally empty so just some of the spray numbing solution came up and....wait for it.....brown bits looking a lot like ground beef. And since then, the only thing I can feel is a sore throat from the camera. I believe we may have just scared it right out of there! He looked quite intensely after I heaved and said it looked all clear! I still have a specialist appointment tomorrow morning, then off to pick up my last check! What an ordeal!

Thanks brother. That really is not a fun thing to go through. I'm so tired of puking, my lame gag reflex has been going nuts all day. I still can't eat any solids until after my appointment tomorrow. I'll be honest, it's almost 3am and yet it's 5 o'clock somewhere! Cheers!

Sun's above the yardarm in Dublin. Have a pint.

I'll drink to that. But just one. Or two. Another doc appt is coming up fast. After that, I get to eat!! That one slice of pizza came up right after I ate it and that's all I've had since Wednesday.

Good grief, that's awful! Glad to hear it appears to have cleared itself though. While I've never had to be scoped or go to the ER, I have things get stuck quite frequently. My father almost died on the operating table some years back as he had a stroke during a surgery and they couldn't get a breathing tube down his throat - turns out he, and apparently my brother and I, have some sort of 'S' shape to our throats that encourage things to get stuck. Now he carries a letter on him at all times to inform any emergency medical personnel of what procedures to take if he needs an emergency airway.

Hopefully it never comes to what you experienced. But again, glad to hear it's clear for now. Let that be the last time.

YIKES. Chewed my breakfast especially well this morning. Get better.

Reminds me when I siphoned a bunch of gasoline down my throat.

Last time that will ever happen

I feel your pain bro. For some reason my esophagus doesn't move food the way it should and I have to drink a lot of water to get it down. And the next morning I still have part of last nights dinner stuck down there which I wash down with a gulp of water.

Had a full upper GI endoscopy, doctors couldn't figure it out.

My problem is that if I lie down within six hours of a meal, the stuck food presses on my heart or the vagal nerve that regulates heart rate. So if I eat anything after 6 PM by 3 AM my heartbeat sounds like the drum line from "Wipeout". And no pizza allowed.

So I don't eat lunch and only a small dinner, yet still somehow manage to remain a fat bastard. But I have learned to live with it.

Oh man, I'm getting bad feelings in my throat just thinking/reading of what you've gone through. :( Must be quite the relief now eh? Hoping for the best for you.

Okay, now that your past the worst part...."Ground Beef"? I knew there was a reason why I don't like ground beef on pizza!

That choking thing is real scary. One night about 15 years ago Wifey and I were eating some pork chops for dinner. She just got up, without saying anything and walked toward the fridge. I thought she was headed to the bathroom. Halfway across the the kitchen she swayed a little, then fell forward and hit the floor! WTH? The piece of pork popped out from the impact. She cuts her meat in little pieces since then.

So tomorrow is my last day at my work. Some of my employees chipped in for pizza. I was down for that. Ate a slice. Started to gag when swallowing after I finished it. Apparently I have a small piece stuck in my throat. 4 hours at the ER and I now have a laryngoscopy scheduled for 10:45 tomorrow. The ER couldn't remove it but it isn't large enough to be dangerous (so they say). Very strange sensation here, swallow and it makes my gag reflex kick in. Yes, I've got a bucket next to me.

In the mean time, I've downed a few raw eggs in hopes that they will grab onto it and take it with them (suggested by several medical sites and even my Dr. said she could see how that might work). Taste terrible. But I'm holding steady. There is a fairly good chance my saliva will dissolve it over night and I'll wake up good to go. If not, it's roto-rooter time.

Your suppose to chew your food:p.

Dang man, sorry to hear about this - it sounds miserable to me:(.

At least the new job doesn't start for a few days?

Best of luck guy!!!

BTDT.

I have Barrett's esophagus which is caused by my GERD.

One day I was wolfing down a hot dog, which is just the right shape to get caught in my throat and got caught it did. Went to the hospital as I could not swallow anything, not even my saliva - and I had trouble breathing. Eventually they had to stick the scope down my throat, but only after anesthesia. Sore throat for a while afterwards.

Had problems before - I now try to be much more careful when eating.

It's a real b**** when that happens. hate it.

Thanks guys, I'm sitting here at the ENT doc and hopefully they tell me it was a fluke and chew better!

Cryin in a cup! That's awful man, glad it's over! On a better note! SUE the pizza maker, the employees that bought it, the beef supplier and anybody else involved!!!!!;) On a serious note, eat slow! I have to remind myself of this all the time! Hopefully you won't ever have to experience this ever again!

That will teach you not to eat that nasty stuff called pizza, from now on if you are where it is and suppose to help eat it think twice about doing so then call me and I will take care of the problem for you. :s0084:

Sorry to hear about the problem but at least you survived to chow down on more PIZZA. :s0072:
