Hey Folks,

I grew up on John Wayne movies but only recently got hooked on Spaghetti Westerns. Starting this year I watch one or two a week. I've noticed that I favor westerns made in the 1960's...The movies that came out in the 70s don't seem to be the same quality. I'd be curious to hear if any of you have a particular Western you enjoy.

So far out of the several dozen movies I've watched this year I've found these to be pretty darn entertaining:

1. Death Rides a Horse
2. A Name That Cried Revenge
3. The Bravados
4. Barquero
5. A Bullet For the General
6. Apache Woman
7. The Dirty Outlaws
8. The Undefeated

Let me know what else I should watch!

Favorite westerns? Let me count ways. (And, oh, I so love the Spaghetti westerns. My favorite subgenre of said, if I am intellectually honest. Well, that and Acid Western and Weird West.)

  • The Outlaw Josey Wales (1976)
  • A Fistful of Dollars (1964)
  • A Few Dollars More (1965)
  • Pale Rider (1985)
  • Tombstone (1993)
  • El Topo (1970)
  • Hang'em High (1968)

Like everyone else, I love spaghetti westerns.
Interesting fact, a lot of these movies were inspired and/or remakes from Akira Kurosawa movies.
Seven Samurai is worth watching.
The Hidden Fortress inspired George Lucas's Star Wars.
These are just some examples of Akira Kurosawa movie making talents.

I'm surprised no one mentioned "High plains Drifter". How/why in heck do they build a city on the edge of a lake with no wood/trees anywhere with in miles or a railroad?

High Plains Drifter and Pale Rider are two Western classics I can watch every couple of months.

Back in the '60s and early '70s we used to go to the Gearhart drive in on car night (Weds IIRC) and it was almost always spaghetti westerns with the exception of Kellys Hero's one night.
That was my 1st introduction to Clint Eastwood, Lee Van Kleef and Donald Sutherland.

This is odd.

I don't think I've seen any of these. Maybe Apache Woman, I'll have to check.

I'm sure I've seen all but three of these. And they were all good, most of them really good.
