Felipe Calderon appealed to the U.S. Congress for restrictions on "assault weapons." Hillary nodded in agreement. Congress politely smiled, and nothing happened. DOA.

I understand (and agree with) the argument that people in this administration would restrict gun ownership if they could. But no anti-gun legislation actually goes anywhere. This is an illustration of how such moves are off the political radar these days. Concealed carry rights are expanding nationally. It's actually a good time for gun rights, comparatively speaking. We may end up looking back on this time as a good era for gun rights.

Agreed. Democrats, particularly in "purple" states, are already sweating bullets (pun intended) regarding the 2010 elections. With their vastly unpopular votes on health care, the stimulus package, and a score of other issues that the majority of Americans are angry about, any sponsorship of further gun control legislation would be the last nail in the coffing lid for many of them and they know it.

However, the battle seems to have moved more to the state level than the federal level for the Anti's. Look for no major legislation, but the death of a thousand cuts thru one gun a month, gun show private sale restrictions, etc.

Agreed. Vigilance is important. Like with the OSP "review" of background checks. I've got no problem with OSP recovering its actual costs of doing the checks. But if they see this as a revenue stream or (even worse) a way of slowing down gun sales, we've got an issue.
