Here we go folks it's that time of year after the legislature has been curtailed somewhat and is done wreaking havoc on our 2nd Amendment rights for the session.
It seems that our illustrious AG has prodded the anti-gun movement to come out with initiatives to pass gun control sense the legislature has been hogtied, somewhat but it has not been but cost of lack of effort on their part.
Folks it is time to Saddle Up because these initiatives are an all out War on the Second Amendment and they do have the financial backing to get what they want.:mad::mad:

This initiative is Pro 2A thank goodness.
There's a grassroots effort to alter campus gun laws in Washington ... ry-campus/

It just won't end this time...

We need to end it by getting facts out and having a viable plan to address the problems associated with Gun Free Zones, they do not work to keep out the crazies with guns.
We, as citizens need to get involved during this initiative process. Show up at the anti-gun signing stations with signs and handouts with facts along with the websites that corroborate them.
We have to fight for our rights like those whom were confronted by tyranny over 2 hundred years ago, we must not be complacent anymore.

This is where the gun ban initiative will first be seen.
With regard to the OP you can read the official ballot information as well.
Please don't take this the wrong way neighbors; do your own research.

Ballot Title

Initiative Measure No. 1621 concerns possession of firearms on school grounds.

This measure would allow nonstudents to carry pistols on school grounds if they are licensed to carry concealed pistols, with certain requirements for school employees, and end requirements to post "GUN-FREE ZONE" signs.

Should this measure be enacted into law? Yes [ ] No [ ]

Seems straightforward to me. If someone has undergone the testing to be a concealed carry permit holder, they should be deemed qualified for such carry on school grounds.

Wait...... there is more.

The person who filed the initiative has started a couple online sources for folks to use.

carry1621.org and

facebook.com/i1621

If you are interested in this initiative or know folks who are, pass it along.
These types of initiatives are a LOT of work.

You might want to actually READ the initiative. It's not something sponsored by an anti-gun group. It is a PRO-GUN initiative that eliminates the ban on people with CPLs carrying on school grounds.

Overall, I think eliminating a ban on carrying on school grounds for CPL's is a step in the right direction. For CPL holders, it would probably be beneficial to also permit/include other items such as folding knives many EDC, etc.

One thing I would like to see is a wider range of acceptable 'candidates' for school security. The repeated narrative of 'retired LEO' or 'retired military' is being thrown out there with the tone that only such folks would/should be considered. While retired LEO/Military might provide a good pool to select from provided they have or have maintained proper skills, proficiency, and capabilities (for example, an ex-Mil guy who worked his career in something like admin or supply might not be the pinnacle choice), there's plenty of non-LEO/MIL types who are highly skilled/qualified and/or capable for such a role. Seriously, are you going to tell someone like a well-skilled IDPA, USPSA or 3-Gun competitor and/or someone who's trained with the likes of Hackathorn, Ayoob, Clint Smith, or other top trainers they're 'not qualified?' That's short sighted, and as we know, some of the very best shooters in the world are just plan ol' 'civilians.'

I could easily see there being a opportunity to reach out to communities around schools and asking local nearby residents to volunteer, with those with prior firearms experience and/or a CPL getting preference. Run a background check. Clear? Move forward. A couple evenings or weekend of walk through familiarization of the school layouts, a some range and specific first aid training (tourniquet, bleeding), perhaps issue them a particular 'safety' identification and maybe a specific identifying vest/jacket in the event of an actual 'event', and you're off and running. Encourage them to build relationships with school, attend functions, serve as a 'safety monitor' at random times, etc. Perfect? No. A good start? IMHO, yes. Then build on it. Cost would be fairly economical comparatively.

Of course now, as the hysteria is starting to settle down, its seems to suddenly be 'dawning' on many that such things will cost $$, and not just a little.

Just my $.02 worth.
