The article in the National Review surprised me. Here is what I don't know yet - was there always a loophole in Obamacare for this, or did say tobacco lobbyists find a subsequent loophole and they bought off the powers making decisions at a committee level?

Peter

I don't understand legalese so I haven't read all 2000 pages, that said.

As I understand it this is the new normal, nobody will be denied insurance or pay higher rates because of a PEC. So nobody will make insurance payments. Just wait till you get sick or injured and only then pay the penalty ($1,000 IIRC).

Obamacares main purpose isn't to provide health care, it's goal is to make people more dependent on government so they'll vote D. This is the same approach Britain took under Gordon Brown. Yeah this new HUGE entitlement will break the bank, yawn, they don't care.

Power must be a great drug.

Okay, so let me get this straight so I understand.....
It is okay to take rights and liberties away from people, as long as it does not take away from your rights......sounds familiar.
"First they came for the communists, and I did not speak out—
because I was not a communist;

Then they came for the socialists, and I did not speak out—
because I was not a socialist;

Then they came for the trade unionists, and I did not speak out—
because I was not a trade unionist;

Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out—
because I was not a Jew;

Then they came for me—
and there was no one left to speak out for me."

"The rights of every man are diminished when the rights of one man are threatened."

Since this is a firearms forum, maybe's it's worth mentioning w/o going too far off topic, that we're only steps away from gun ownership being labled a health risk - which is why, in part doctors all over the country are asking patients in routine visits if they own or store firearms at home.

Acordingly, inreased liability and health insurance costs will be apportioned, when this occurs.

What about people with a body mass index higher than 3%? BTW I smoke and pay for my own healthcare.

You pay for a health plan or you completely pay all the bills?

If you pay for insurance you don't pay your health care, just a part of it. Very few people can pay for all of their health care.

I pay for my healthcare! It is tax deductible. I soon will be paying for other fellow Americans insurance. May I deduct that as well? I here you folks up north just got bubblegumed out of deducting sales taxes.... I'm sorry to here that!

"Smoking is now a pre-existing condition"

As it should be.

I respectfully disagree. I'm a Mormon. So, we are against all the stuff you all know about. But this is BS. If its a pre-existing condition, then so should all booze, and pain killers. This is total Feds telling people what they need to do to fit into the straight line. And I get we are paying for this health care, but its a slippery slope.

I agree. I drink lots of coffee with sugar. Have been for 30 years. Sugar causes cavities and tooth decay. I guess I should be charged a higher rate because I have a pre-existing condition.

I have also spent many years in the construction trade picking up heavy things. I have two degenerated discs in my lower back. I guess my premiums should be even higher then.

I also used to smoke years ago and did smoke for 20+ years. My rates should be sky high by now, right?
