My father was just given a Smith and Wesson model #2 serial number 9xxx chambered in 32 rim fire and I have had a lot of luck before picking the brains of those smarter than I so I figured I would give it a shot.

From what I've found there is a good chance that based on the serial number this pistol could have been used in the war.
It is mechanically sound and has firm cylinder lock up and has minor pitting.
Any info you may have on this civil war era pistol such as mechanical info, rarity, or value would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you, I have found that it was made in 1862 as part of the second year production of that model and while the finish is far from perfect the action is crisp and tight.
If memory serves wild bill hickok was carrying one when his aces and 8s hit the table.
