    couple o' questions- what engineering change is it? under the crane, open the cylinder, it should say 'MOD 629-?'. was the gun modified to mount all that stuff on top, or was it straight bolt on? it looks like the rear sight was removed to mount that thing. does it come with the gun?

    thanks for taking the time to answer one of my questions. i am still curious if the gun was drilled and tapped to mount that sight. also since the pic you provided was of the left side, i can't tell if its a pre or post lock gun.

    it has the "extra" screw at the top of the sideplate, so it's a new "lock" S&W.
    Or a very rare and valuable nickel 5 screw pre 29...:D

    Good point about those side plate screws, and it could simply be a 4-screw ...29! Nickel plated of course..
