Interesting, are you sure that this is a SKS M,and not a Type 84.
What makings are on the rifle, imported by ? Is there a bolt hold open button or a pin ?
The SKS " M " were usually sporter versions, sans bayonet / lug ,and were marked "SKS Sporter", "SKS M", "SKS NR", or "MC 5D"
Some of the " Pre- Ban " variations were imported by Navy Arms and came in to the USofA with the shortened spike bayonets.
Thanks,
RK

That's actually a "D" model SKS, and the nice wood makes it an early commercial sales model and not a surplus "84" model. The type "M" SKS were also commercial models, but a later version forced to use that odd-looking thumbhole stock, and usually of the shorter "paratrooper" barrel. Alas, you will be sorry that you sold the "D".........................elsullo
