Plan To Split California Into Six States Gets OK To Gather Signatures

One is bad enough, but six would be a HUGE improvement. Realizing the odds of the feds signing off on this are exactly zero to none, I believe this is a good first step in the right direction. Should be interesting to watch how this plays out.

Maybe the State of Jefferson movement could garner momentum from this effort?

I too don't think it will happen. Of the many reasons why, one of them is the land slide it would create in other states following suit. Basically, states in the west would divide along city/county lines and we would potentially have 150 states. WHAT WOUD THE FLAG LOOK LIKE THEN???

I would love to see California get divided up. There is just too many sectors of the state that have nothing in common with each other. Make the Bay Area separate, LA and San Diego separate. The rest of the states could stand on their own two feet and probably thrive if they cut off the gangrene that makes up those other areas....

To take this same idea even further, there are many people opening up to the idea of city-states. As in the city of X is a state in of itself, this means that the city is not running the politics of the rest of the state.

As for the flag, I rather like the one that had the 13 stars on it. Right now we only have 50 stars and effectively have 53 states, so who gives a bubblegum about how many stars there are.

IIRC, (from my classes On California History, taken IN the State of California....

There have been Over 20 attempts in One Hundred Fifty (plus) years, to divide the State into (minimum) 2 States, at least once Three States... But SIX????

Not only NO, but St-Up-Id !!!!!

the state is a difficult land mass To Split up, Two very long valleys, to Great River Basins, the Coastal "Mountains" the ~real mountains~ (Not to mention the Worlds shortest Mountain chain....) then the Northern Desert, versus the Southern Desert... And the Canyon Region(s).

The real Diversity, though is the Cultural Diversity. In that the State really has Three regions.

Northern, popularized as "The State of Jefferson" (I would say the Great State of Jefferson....) the centeral Populated section, and then, La La Land, or the Southern State.

however, the Centeral Populated area, is So Much More, LIKE the La La Land, than The Great State of Jefferson, that ideally, only Two states need be created.

From a Mythical Line East/West from about Marysville/Yuba City, Or City of Sonoma... NORTH is a culture based upon Agriculture, Cattle, Sheep herding, & LOGGING.

South of that are the Populist culture... populist in the Old Dictionary definition....

having grown up in the Great State of Jefferson, and much later, living in Sonoma County, NORTH of City of Sonoma.... I can back the above with ~Personal Experiance~ and I will say, in Sonoma County, circa 1980's - 1990's, that even Thirty Miles of Highway 101 North, or South, will provide Agriculturalist versus Populist living differences.

for you Totally Oregonian folks, who know Lane County... Consider the Awesome Dichotomy, of Eugene, West to Veneta, then see the NOTI to Florence difference.

Study, as I have, since 1993, my arrival into Lane County, From Olympia Washington.... The simple difference of HWY 126' east of Badger Pass, and then WEST of that Pass...

And you will have a Perfect analogy, of Highway 101, South of Healdsburg, and North of Healdsburg.

You can See LIFE STYLE changes (with the South ENCROACHING upon the North, at that line!

Ahh, California I miss the Spire Rocks, found in Bidwell Park, Chico... I miss, Feather Falls, Butte County... But I have just One Trip Left, to travel to California... Then.... I am through with that State.

I will not even go to those to spots: Bidwell Park, which I grew up IN..... For the Southern Populists have Destroyed it.

The real question should be do you want to give all those little Cali state's more FEDERAL power.
Remember a State gets TWO senators and representatives based on their population. Does anyone really want to give all that FEDERAL power to the land of fruits and nuts?
I would rather keep all those Californians in Cali, a limited immigration policy if you will, while they screw themselves incrementally into oblivion.

How about combining a few of those new england states together, maryland merges w/ delaware, rhode island w/ connecticut, vermont w/ new hampshire.
Culturally they are indistinguishable anyway.

Fewer east coast senators could only be a good thing.

Actually southern calif could slip into the ocean but the way the plates are makes that is improbable.

I've said it before and will inevitably say it again, It's not just a north south CA thing. If you carved off the SD, south bay and bay areas the rest of the state (with the exception of a few blips) are not anti gun. Heck - if you shaved off everything and everyone within 10 miles of the coast in those dense population areas the state would have a fair chance of votes representing the bulk of the population instead of just the wishes of the inner city ghetto rats and the socialist agenda.
