My wife doesn't always pay attention to her surroundings and I've been concerned that she'll get into trouble at some point because of this. However, tonight, she made me think that she's starting to change.
She's at a work conference in Mexico at the moment. I asked her several times leading up this whether her organization had given any thought to the "troubles" down there right now. She indicated that nobody had said anything about it, so things must be safe. Last week, their internal security group suddenly got very involved in the conference, sending two of their security specialists along with the group and hiring "local contractors" (whoever that might be) to help while down there.
I asked if these folks were armed. To my surprise, she said "no" and then listed all of the things she checked/observed in coming to that conclusion - bulges under jackets, outlines in pockets, bags carried, clothes worn, etc. To be honest, I was very pleased that she was checking at all & thought she did a good job of analyzing the situation.
Anyway, for those of you with family/friends who sometimes just don't "get it" with situational awareness, there's hope yet!
