... if I have understood your question correctly, changing the slide ... no.
For the P239-40, you can swap out the .40SW barrel for the factory .357SIG.
And can also swap out the barrel for 9mm.
That means a 3rd party barrel, like Bar-sto.
See their website: Bar-Sto Precision Machine
The semi fit choice is $225.
Professional fitting might be required, but a Bar-sto may just drop in.
With the 9mm barrel in the P239-40, you get the benefit of slightly less recoil, if that's your need.
And you get an extra round over the .40SW.
The .40SW mags are reported as being just fine with 9mm.
With the P239-9, one cannot go up in caliber to either .357SIG or .40SW.
I bought a factory 9mm barrel for my P239 .40. Fit and functions perfectly with out any fitting required. The .40 magazines and recoil spring also work, but ejection is a little weak. Range use only!
Top Gun Supply has Barsto 357/40 to 9mm conversion bbls in stock for the 239. So far (knock on wood) out of the 3 I've bought, I haven't had to fit any of them.
Check out the threads on sigtalk about this. Some are reporting just using a sig 9mm barrel with the .40 slide and the .40 mags. There is a dedicated threat on the subject.
