I have a Marlin 1894 Carbine which shoots 38/357. My grandmother bought it for me about 40 years ago when I was visiting her in North Carolina. I recall they were hard to find then and I happen to see one when I was visiting. She's long passed now and I'm almost as old now as she was then. God bless her.

It's been a bit since my last share.
As of Friday. I am the proud owner of a Marlin 444. It even came with brass, dies, and a lyman bullet mold. Will add a picture this evening.

Sunday morning I went back to the show in Centralia to buy the Marlin 336 35 Rem for $600 I should have bought yesterday - got to the show and it was long gone. frown.gif I was getting ready to leave, but decided to make another spin around the show just in case I missed something.

About half way through, I stopped at a table that had a bunch of 99s; of course they were all in 300 savage. The elderly gentleman asked what I was looking for and I replied, "a 99 in 358 Win., but I haven't see one in 25 years." He reached under the table and pulled out this pristine 99 in .358. He laughed, "can't say that now." He told me he bought it new in '78 and other then wiping it down with oil once in awhile, it's remained in his safe, unfired. Although to me it doesn't quite have the je ne sais quois of an earlier model F or EG model with cut checkering, I wasn't going to leave this one behind. biggrin.gif

Mine did. As far as I remember, the 99-A was produced simultaneously with the removable magazine models, all the way to the end.

Wayno,

When was your 99A made?

I bought it new in 1979. It may or may not have sat on the shelf for a year or two prior, but either way, it's a later-'70's rifle. I also have the Savage brochure for when I bought it. I'll dig it up and maybe post a photo or two. These are wonderful rifles, and they were far ahead of their time.

I have the '81 catalogue. Nice shot of an "A" in the 99 section....and looking at it now, I see that tiny little hole in front of and below the ejection port of the "A" being shown ....cartridge counter?
